Default washing versus Pledge.. in general

I know many people swear by Pledge and microfiber to keep their paint, chrome, screens shiny but I am suspicious that "microfiber" and Pledge are perhaps not a full time substitute for traditional washing and cleaning. I guess I have a lot of the old ideas from the days of hand rubbed candy apple lacquer finishes... like "use plenty of water", "never wipe with a dry cloth", "polish out of direct sunlight", etc. Somehow I can't get rid of a nagging idea that a cloth that is only lightly sprayed with anything may be damaging to a finish.

So here's my question:

What are your experiences, ideas, and thoughts on "wiping down with microfiber and Pledge after every ride" versus old fashioned washing, cleaning, and polishing?

Thanks

Jim

Keep in mind that Pledge contains solvents that strip away wax to prevent "waxy buildup" on furniture. Every time you rub on Pledge you are stripping off your high quailty automotive wax and replacing it with cheap low quality furniture wax that does not last long and is not formulated for outdoor environments. The Pledge question comes up on the gun boards sometimes when people talk about using it on gun stocks. Some people swear by it though. It's cheap and easy but good wax applied twice a year looks much better IMHO.

What is with this Pledge Furniture Polish thing???
I would NEVER use Pledge on my ride. Pledge will not protect your paint.

Will Pledge block UVA/UVB rays, protect against bug damage, bird droppings, tree sap, block oxidation, corrosion or everyday environmental contaminants that find their way onto your paint?

Sure it's quick, fast and shiny but it is not for vehicles! Pledge is for WOOD!

I know some bike shops that use Pledge and Windex after they work on your bike to remove smudges and make it look good when you pick it up.
I have seen threads where folks have contacted the Pledge/Johnson company and were told "...Pledge is not for use on automotive finishes..."
You will never see anyone at a show doing a quick detail with Pledge. They would be laughed at and thrown off the concours.

For the money you spent on your ride you're going to use a $3.99 product to maintain, protect and enhance the finish???
Spend an extra $6-$8 bucks and buy a good quality Quick Detailer that is formulated and tested for today's modern paint finishes!

It's really simple.
Polish no more than twice a year to remove swirl marks and fine scratches. (only if needed)
Wash once a week. Two bucket method with a clean wool mitt. Blow Dry and pat w/clean MF towels.
Use a good quality wax every 1-2 months or I prefer to use a synthetic sealant. (easy and lasts longer)
Keep a quality quick detail spray and a few clean MF towels in your saddle bag to keep it looking good.

Wash, Protect and Maintain.

Agreed! Pledge isn't made for cleaning paint! And I love microfiber cloths with a quick detailer. You can save money by buying optimum no rinse wash and shine and making your own btw! Works just as good and you can make tons of the stuff. Makes paint look really awesome!

Pledge is an oil based product. It will cause the dust and other contaminants to stick to the microfiber cloth. This will cause spider webs and swirls. If your bike is dirty, wash it (2 bucket system). Use the best quality wax you can afford. In life there are no short cuts. Taking care of you M/C is the same.

I use Meguirs quick detail most of the time. I only wash a couple times a year with water. Usually right after an event like bike week where I have racked up alot of miles in a short amount of time. I guess I am afraid of the water.
