Default matte Black cleaning tips

Anyone have any good cleaners for a Matte Black paint job that wont shine it up? Painter says to just use regular bike wash but wondering if there is anything else.

Getting all my tins back tomorrow and cant wait to put it all back together and get riding again.

I have the Black Denim and the dealership told me to use WD-40. I haven't tried it yet so I can't speak to it. But, I generally just wash with soap and water and dry it off. I actually think it is harder to keep clean than the shinny!.

Thanks I figured it would be a bit harder to keep clean, I just don't want to use the wrong stuff and make it shiny.

Regular bike was such as S100 is not good for the denim paint.

I have black denim and I use glass cleaner (windex), as recommended by HD before they made the denim cleaner. I have used the denim cleaner this past year, and just sticking with glass cleaner., did not work better or worse, but easier to have glass cleaner around than to make the trip just for the HD branded cleaner. Dealer even laughed when I bought it and said its nothing special. Many other items to include in your arsenal of cleaning, PIG SPIT. I have used this on all the wrinkle black pieces, and is hella of a good deal. I clean everything with those two things, windex and pig spit with a lint free cloth (like a good microfiber). Here is the link for their denim cleaner if you are interested; http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

Qouted from bulletin M1172

BLACK DENIM PAINT CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Purpose
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide an understanding of
the characteristics of Black Denim paint and the required
care to the dealer network.
Black Denim finish differs from traditional high-gloss finishes
on other Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Like denim fabric,
Black Denim paint will burnish with age and use, adding
character and personality to the finish of the motorcycle. The
integrity of the paint, however is not affected by age.
Please refer customers to the Owner’s Manual for details on
finish care.
If scratched, nicked or scuffed, Black Denim paint can not be
buffed out. If polished, the finish will become less matte and
more glossy over time. This finish can not be repaired.
Motorcycles with Black Denim paint should follow processes
outlined in the Harley-Davidson Cosmetic Guidelines booklet.
Motorcycles Affected
Select 2006 VRSCD and FXDB Dyna model motorcycles.
Required Dealer Action
Inform service personnel of the special care instructions for
Black Denim paint, communicate the characteristics of Black
Denim paint to customers at time of vehicle order placement
and review at time of new vehicle delivery.
Service Procedure
Cleaning Black Denim paint:

For heavy deposits on finish:
Use a grease cutting
dishwashing detergent and a clean H-D wash-mitt (P/N
94760-99). Dilute dishwashing detergent per instructions
provided by manufacturer and rinse thoroughly with
clean water.

For light deposits on finish:
Use ammonia based
glass cleaner and a soft H-D Soft-Cloth (HD-94656-98).

For final detailing:
Use H-D Gloss with H-D Soft Cloth.
NOTE
Refer to Table 1 for recommended cleaning care products.

Here is all my cleaning tips;

PIG SPIT for all the wrinkle black parts...(I used S100 didnt like it that much)
Windex for the black denim paint.
Simple Green for any other grime that gets on the bike, engine, frame, will not hurt your bike.
Alumnium wheels: HD Wheel and Tire Cleaner..gets the brake dust off. Mothers Mag and Wheel cleaner with Scotch Brite pad. After cleaning, use HD GLoss on the wheels to protect it.

Thats about it.

I use the degreaser at the carwash. Quick, easy, and pretty much the same thing as Simple Green. Makes the bike look great and gets the bugs and crap off.

not sure why this isn't a more active thread. I know it's old but I use a mist bottle and water. just spray it down a section at a time. i let it sit a bit and wipe with a soft cloth. as good as showrrom clean. polishing the chrome is the time comsuming part. if it's real dirty, i'll use a hose and add some dish soap.
