Default Ballistol Review

I didn't know wether to post this in the gun forum or the detailing forum. I ordered Ballistol because everyone was saying how good it was on firearms. There is a You Tube vid about it by Hickok45, if you know who he is. It works so good some don't use gun oil — the slippery film that it leaves does the lubricating. The film that it leaves is not wet so it won't attract carbon and residue like oil will. It really brought back the Melonite finish on my Glock.

It was invented in Germany before WW I as an all around gun cleaner and lubricant. It is now made in Kitty Hawk, NC and is pharmaceutical mineral oil-based not petrol oil so it is nontoxic and contains no carcinogens. They used to shave with it during the war. It is used to clean and lubricate machinery used in food processing because it is not poisonous. It smells sweet like black licorice.

After cleaning one of my Glocks I started in on the MC. I used it on the inside of the fairing with great results, better than Back-to-Black and Pig Spit. I eventually used it on every part of the bike except the rotors. Simply amazing, it is the best detailer I have ever used. On the painted engine parts it is several times better than S100 Engine Brightener and Pig Spit. I have the stock painted / aluminum wheels and wow, they look better than new! You can also add a few ounces to a bucket of car wash.

After I finished the bike I used it on my stainless steel appliances, wood furniture, riding boots, etc.

I bought a 6 ounce aerosol spray can from a EBay seller but I did not want to post a link because I didn't want people to think I am selling it. You can buy it from the company directly or just Google it. I later bought a larger non-aerosol can.

I buy it from Brownells in the big bottles. I use it to clean my guns but never thought of using it on my motorcycle. Interesting.

Try it on your bike you will be pleased. I have used it on everything except the rotors and my bike has never looked so good. It leaves slippery finish that helps prevent dirt from sticking. The painted engine parts, inner fairing are the black portion of my wheels are now a deep black.

The stuff continues to amaze. The lining of my dishwasher is stainless steel and is spotted from hard water. I wiped down the inside of the door and put a couple of ounces in and ran it. It looks like new. All the plastic covered racks look new too.

I use it on firearms. Never thought about using it on my bike. I'll have to give it a try.
