So I got a text from a buddy after I left his place that he noticed one of my brake lights out on my Wide Glide. No problem, I have plenty of bulbs so I replaced it. Only the bulb really wasn't burned out, but I replaced it anyway. The bulb lights up for the brakes and turn signal, but just not the running light. The left light is working fine in all respects.
Not really a fan of trying to find electrical issues. I do have a the key fob and security system installed (done at dealer when I bought the bike)
I wonder if it could be a loose/damaged wire. Anybody have any ideas?
I am not 100% sure if your 12' had the CANBUS system or the traditional system, if it's the traditional, your running light should be the blue wire going to your tail light, might have a loose wire in one of the sockets or maybe a cut wire somewhere between the seat and the lights connectors. I don't know anything about how the CANBUS system is wired up, so I can't help you if that's what you have.
I was thinking a possible damaged wire under the fender.
I think I do have the CANBUS system. I am pretty sure I used that plug in to remap the bike with my Fuel Pak 3 after I put the pipes and air cleaner on. And since I did have that stuff off when I was putting the pipes on, its possible there is a loose wire. I do know it was working fine after I put on the pipes though, because I finished at night and could easily see all the lights working. I've had the pipes on the bike for a while now too.
The brake switch lets it light up when I press my foot brake or hand brake. Wouldn't that rule out the brake switch?
It sounds like you have an aftermarket module for three brake lights maybe gone bad, or maybe a bad ground on one of your lamps. Do you have access to an electrical tester?
