Yeah. I prefer to mount my own tires just because of the cost. I get between 8k and 12k on my tires...which means I'm replacing tires sometimes twice a year. too expensive to pay HD (or anyone else) to do it. but then i'm a cheap bastard.
i have a tire-changing station and a big table lift with a rear-wheel cut-out so it doesn't take me too long. if i feel the need, i can run the wheel up to the local Cyclegear and pay them $15 to spin-balance it.
I've been running Dunlops for over 12 years but recently decided to try Metzler. They are more expensive but I think I prefer them now. Cyclegear has pretty fair prices so I try to do business with them when I can.
-skully
06 fxdbi (24k miles and still running like a raped-ape)
I just called my local Stealer.....WOW they are insane.
$213.99 for the tire
$18.00 for the tube
$2.00 for the band
$82.00 for the labor
---------
$315.99 for the new tire....oh CR@P I forgot to add the tax!![:@]
So does anyone know of an inexpensive place to get a tire changed out in SOCAL??
$213.99 for the tire???Friggin' thieves!!! I thought my Stealer was bad.. (I still do). Bought my tire online for $120 + $15 shipping. About $35 less than my stealer. HD part# 43169-00A. They charged an hour labor ($65) + tax and disposal fee. Total cost $205. Still pretty damn high. You might want to find a decent Indy shop that can change it for you. Definately buy the tire elsewhere.
Does anyone know what the Part Number for the tube is? and the Tube Band?
What I'm gonna do is buy everything online and take it to a local speed shop that I found. If I buy everything myself they will charge me 25.00 to mount and balance.
yeah. cyclegear will mount and balance if you bring in the wheel. they won't pull it off the bike.
the one here in austin will mount and balance a tire you buy from them for free. $15 if you didn't buy the tire from them.
not sure about the price of a rim-strip, but a tube to fit my bike runs around $12.
