Hey everybody. I have been on the hunt for a bike for the past month or so. I have came across 2-3 different options. The 06 seems like a smokin deal, I am supposed to go take a look at it tonight. I am guessing if there are not any problems with it like the owner says, it wont be for sale long. My only questions are, is it worth a couple extra grand for the 07 and is there any specifics I should look for when checking out the 06 tonight. I will put up the 3 links to the bikes. Would love any feedback. Thanks!
I have an 08 FXDL with 30,000 miles, I LOVE IT! Go look and ride them. Check out the service history. I know a lot of people who would rather buy a bike without a lot of stuff added to it, because they want to add chrome to it and make it their own. As I said just check all of them out and get bluebook values and check the service history. Good Luck. Be safe.
Glad to hear David, I am really looking forward to seeing it tonight. NADA is showing low retail at $6200 and KBB is $6400, so I think the price point is very good!
The 06 has the 88 inch motor and the 07 has the 96 inch. Not that big a deal if the money's right, and the 06 seems to be a great deal. Both have the six speed gearbox.
What you have to look out for in the 06 is the inner primary bearings (IPB) were sketchy and were replaced by the dealers under a warranty program. The stators also tended to come apart and the fix on that was to weld them. None of those issues on the 07's.
Of course, pictures don't always tell the whole story. My advice, whichever you decide on, is to get it looked at by a mechanic. It's $100 well spent.

Good advice. My stator clunked at about 21,000 other than that it was a good ride. Sold it at 35,000 not another problem.
Nevil and Woodman - Thanks for the heads up. I've been doing some searching around and the IPB and stator, seem to be like the big problems that occurred in the early 2006's. I guess they even started welding some of the late model 06's because of the problem. Great advice about taking it to a mechanic, I didnt think about that, but that will probably be one of the first stops. Should I be worried about the cam tensioner? The 88ci does not really bother me. Thanks again fellas
06 up Dynas have the new tensioners so I don't think there is a problem there. there is a difference in the gearing, 07 up have slightly taller gearing.
06 Dyna has 32/70 sprockets, 07 up has 32/66 sprockets if I remember right.
Well the a**hole that I set up a meeting to go see about the 06 sold it this afternoon after I was putting together plans to go tonight. Oh well I guess I will keep on the lookout and try to see about the two 07's.
I just traded for a 09' FXDL and I love it! Of course it's my first bike and first Harley! I'm no one to listen much to because I'm new to this as well. I love the look of the low rider. Them 96 ci with intake and exhaust upgrades are all I will want for a long time! Good luck in your search!
Thats awesome ctchap, I am so looking forward to getting a bike hopefully this week, it will be my first as well! I think I have it narrowed down to the two 2007's listed above, I am just not sure what I should do because I am new to this and the price points are somewhat hard to understand at the moment.
https://stlouis.craigslist.org/mcy/4662584040.html - This one is apparently is perfect condition and I wouldnt doubt it by the pictures. The only upgrades appear to be extra chrome, a windshield, engine guard, and a batt charger. He wants $7400.
https://stlouis.craigslist.org/mcy/4661679753.html - This one needs a new tire and has a very small ding in the tank according to the owner. But then it has the screaming eagle intake, v&h pipes, and a tuner. He wants $6600.
I know I should just probably go see them but at the same time it would be nice to kind of have a decision beforehand, because I am a new rider and would probably not be riding it back because both are about an hour away (unfortunately in opposite directions) and require city highway driving for a portion of the trip (which I dont think would be a good idea for me). I have a trailer setup.
