Disagree... Nephew is a host on HorsePowerTV, has built numerous engines; friend drags his bikes at Lucas Oil Drag Park, they swear by Amsoil. Been running it in my engines for quite a awhile, no issues.
I honestly don't care what your nephew does or what kind of oil he swears by, even the "best" oils can fail. I don't care if your nephew worked for nasa and used scamsoil in the space shuttle, I still wouldn't use the crap.
There were no failures with any other kind of oil? That's amazing!
If somebody really good had torn down the engine, they probably could have diagnosed what really happened. Given that your dad drove it easy, it was probably a manufacturing defect, like the bearing clearance not set up correctly originally. Lots of other possibilities too. Very few problems are actually caused by lubricant failure.
Thats what they told me and my dad and I trust them and not you so
Very few problems are actually caused by lubricant failure.
Which of course begs the question; if you use what the manufacturer recommends and change it at the required intervals, or maybe even a little sooner, then why prescribe some superlative qualities and allegiance to a particular brand? (Okay, that was a trick question. As Coke, Pepsi, Levi's and Joe Camel figured out, brand loyalty trumps most all else.)
Exactly, how many oil brands recommended and used by the manufacturer and/or OEM cause engine problems or failures. When you select your oil choice you should rely more on science and less on opinion.

Because, while brand choice of lubricant will rarely cause engine failure (in modern engines), some will reduce wear compared to other oils, or exhibit other differences.
One example is that a few of my old sportbikes would burn oil when I was using Valvoline. Didn't happen when I was using Torco or Castrol GTX. Still don't understand why, but I went back and forth enough times that there was no question about the difference.
Just get some Mobil One V-Twin. Just as good and you can find it everywhere.
First a qualifier; I don't use Amsoil or Mobil 1 but another synthetic brand.
Amsoil uses a PAO base stock. My brand uses a Ester base stock. Does anyone know what Mobil 1 uses as its synthetic base stock ? I've read posts elsewhere suggesting its (Mobil 1) a group III.

Dude, you get on a thread bad mouthing a product (any product), your gonna get some people who like it and voice their opinions, just like you did. We can turn this into another oil debate but why bother, it's not that big a deal. Use what you will and enjoy it....
