Default Need help for GPS install

Ok first thing is first, i spent almost all night last night searching and reading other forums on this subject matter. I have a 14 fxdb installing the sumo 665 with motorcycle cradle. I do not want to hook it up straight the battery because i know i will forget to turn off the gps and drain the battery. I am looking for an accessory plug to go into. Finally broke down and called harley, the service tech gave me to the mechanic and he said there are power spots on the bike to hook up to and to refer to the manual for locations. My question (phoning a friend) is for those who have a manual can you show me where these plugs or spots are? I know i know to get a manual ( i did but it comes in 6 days) so thats why i am reaching out for help.

Thanks in advance for the help

Most simplest way (for me) is to use your battery tender plug. Won't be using both at the same time anyway.
They have the plug pre made with a little research.

Your right. A gps only draws around 1-2amps if that. I have mine connected in the head light. I tapped into the front running lights. I would have kept using the battery tender but the wife had to have a power plug. LOL
If you are concerned it may cause a problem add a relay. That way the power will come from the battery but your switch will turn it off and on.

Have you looked under the seat for any empty Deutsch plugs that may provide switched power?

Yup 14 fxdb has no extra plugs. The only one there is s the data link plug. I don't really want to splice into my factory wires but I'm thinking about soldering into the rear running light wire and heat shrinking to protect the wires

The rear running light wire was my choice for a volt meter I installed many moons ago.

I use my phone as my GPS. I extended a line from my battery tender to the bars.
I've never been a huge fan of splicing into the factory wiring.

Ya splicing into the wire is my last option.
