I have a 06 street bob, V&H Black Big Radius, Thundermax with Autotune,RSD Venturi air cleaner with K&N filter. Looking to upgrade cam and cylinders, trying to not do heads because I hear your reliability go's down after. I know the 06 dynas can except the later years cams 96"ci. I already ordered a heavy duty clutch spring. I was thinking S&S 97" Big bore Kit with a S&S 570 or 585 easy start cam, and .030 head gaskets to raise the compression to 9.9. Do you think my reliability would go downhill with this settup. I usually don't redline my motor so I would like more usable torque up to 5700 rpm or so. Any suggestions? I won't change my pipes for more performance either they look great and cost alot. I could just bore my cylinders but I like that the S&S Kit has heavier duty liners and if I go 98" Kit there is no room for a rebuild. I don't know if I would need adjustable pushrods with this settup or not, if I do whats the best 1's to get and the correct size. I think the 06 Dynas also already have hydralic tensioners for the chain drive cam, so I might just buy replace the shoes ,12,500 miles on the bike now. I was thinking a Axtell TC oil bypass might be a good idea too. Another question I know the S&S Kit does not require rebalancing of the motor, if I went with a 95" Kit with Cp forged 10.5 pistons would I need to rebalance. 1 shop told me it was $2,000 to rebalance add that to the other parts and I could just get a new bigger V twin engine.

Well my opinion or remarks i guess is the 570 cam do good. But i wouldn't want the easy start cam version i just not sold on how reliable that pivot gizzmo thing is . Second i question if the .030 head gasket alone will get you to that 9.9 compression. I have a Andrews 57H cam in my motor and like if however i am consider taking .040 off the heads to get me a boost along with the .030 gasket. That be a total of .055 closer now that should bump the comp some. As far as reliability goes my only fear was as i stated the easy start feature is all i be nervous over
You have some mis-information in there. I like the easy start cams from s&s. You will not need adjustable pushrods if you go with a cam that has the same base circle as the stock cams. I like s&s parts but there is a benefit to having your cylinders bored and fit to the pitsons (cost). There are a ton of vendors that are members here that can hook you up for that. I myself, am going through this process right now. I bought the se 95 kit and 203 cams for a mild build. I am having my flywheels trued and welded and also the Timken bearing conversion done for reliability. Some say the crank work is not necessary but I didn't want to chance it and I had the extra coin. It was either spend the money on crank work or headwork. I figured it was easier to do the crankwork now then later. And when I do headwork in the future I will change the cams up to suite it. Your choice is key

S&S has it listed that the compression with the stock heads is 9.7. and if you add a thinner gasket .030 you add .2 compression. I have to do some more research on the cams and maybe I don't need the ez start with only 9.9 compression. I emailed S&S saturday they should get back to me tommoro.

I guess you are right on the compression And i am just kind of **** about the EZ start thing. My fears are me thinking either the little pin that holds that rocker would fail and cause a BIG problem or that down the road some sort of build up of gunk will get in there and not let the cam close. Probably both unfounded things. But i try to eliminate any extra stuff that could brake because for me it always happens in the worst damned places lol.
Getting the cylinders bored to 3.875 95ci at a machine shop in town that came highly recommented by my local chopper shop, Motor Tech,$100 for the bore and hone. WISECO Vt Piston Kit 95Ci Domed Standard Bore 3875In 10.5:1 Comprsn VTwin VT2709 $314 ebay, Smiths quick install adjustable pushrods $144,Barnett Heavy Duty clutch spring $30, S&S 585 Easy Start cam $334 ebay, S&S Cycle Premium High-Performance Tappet without HL2T Kit 330-0175 $224 ebay, Baisley LMR Oil Pressure Spring $17.50 $1,163 total for parts plus whatever Galley Motorworks charges for the install. Should get some nice power and torque I think with this build.
I checked that kit out already nice dyno numbers, but dide'nt want to bore to the last oversize because there is no room for a rebuild. Nice looking fat bob what year is that looks, brand spankin new! I see 2011

I bought the kit in that link sent my cylinders and heads and had them done. Andrew37H cams makes plenty of power. I put a Thundermax with autotune and ride.
