Default Speedo and check engine light issues

I am having an issue with my 2000 wide glide. The turn signals flash 6 times when the ignition is turned on, TSSM still working properly, (Already read the threads on that issue) but along with that my speedo goes out and the odometer goes blank and check engine light comes on whenever I am moving. when I stop and am just at idle engine light goes out and odometer comes back on. Other than that bike seems to be running just fine, any one else experienced this issue or any ideas? Thanks

I had a simular problem after my engine build where I had to take the fuel tank off. I finally decided to disconnect all the connections associated with the speedometer and reconnect them - they all appeared connected OK but by disconnecting and reconnecting the Check Engine light went away.

Thanks from a fellow squid lol. I will give that a try, took the console off last night to look at the wiring but didnt disconnect anything. We recently had a bit of work done also in which the tank was removed. Nice Fatbob

Yes, retired Navy Reserves! Thanks, on the Fat Bob compliment. Will be interested to see if you get the speedo fixed and welcome to the HD Forums! Dangerous place to hang out if you are trying to save $$!

Bassanis being shipped to another HD Forum member. I loved them but not made for a built engine. Got my new vs old dyno tune posted in my "Engine Build Time" thread if interested.

Thanks for the welcome. I don't doubt that for a minute but really, if we are riding Harley's then saving $$ pretty much flew out the window already lol. Luckily though we have an awesome local dealership here and after talking to the service manager it turns out my issue is a bad speed sensor.

Could be a voltage regulator problem. If you have a meter this should help (if not get one!!!):

Also make sure your battery cables are clean and tight.

Thanks Folsom, I was just doing a little more research and found that out as well. Gonna try just cleaning the VSS and see if that fixes the issue temporarily, if not then will need to invest in a meter most likely
