I bought a set of cheap, $120 leather bags from a local leather shop.I tied them on with the included leather straps they looked good and worked fine for a few months until I noticed they had ruined the paint on my back fender and completely worn it off of my belt gaurd. Then I got a set of $150 Easy Brackets and had the leather shop convert the straps on the bags to "quick release" for another $30.So what I have now is a nice set of custom not so cheap quick release bags. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...cture001-1.jpg
Can you pretty much use any bag set with the Easy Brackets? That's what's currently holding me up on doing the conversion. I want the Easy Brackets, but need to know if the bags have to be a certain type of quality (leather vs. synth) and do the bobs need slant or can they use normal bags. did the leather shop understand what you were asking to convert them?
I have the HD quick detach on my Bob, and it is still a solo seater. I will snap some pics and upload. These bags are pricey, but they are very sturdy - I lowsided on a muddy road)whena van pulled out into my lane and other than a major scuff and the inner frame bent a little the bag actually held the bike up like an engine guard.
I bought a set of slant throw owers for my 06 883R Worked great Now thier on my 07 BOB works better my useed bob has a pillion the bags fit great under pillon got the bags at LEATHER UP $49.00 with a tool fork bag encluded Little small but good enough to hold somechange of clothes and some eats
I have the Drifter Slant bags from Saddlemen mounted to my bike with easy brackets. The entire setup is really clean and easy to take off and put back on.
How is it that Leather Up can sell a set of bags for $70 when most other retailers sell them for $600? Real leather or not, are they just cheap quality? Or does everyone else have that HD mentality that their product is best and worth the price?
The only decent way to mount any bags on a Bob is you first have to relocate the turn signals @ $90.00 for the kit from HD.
I have a set exactly like Rogue-Rob only they were orginaly throw overs. I did'nt like the throw over idea as they will scratch the paint off so I cut the straps off the threw them in the garbage and made my own mounting bracket systemout of stop sign material. It looks as good or better than any store bought bags and I only have a total of $140.00 + signal bracket into it.
This whole setup would have been 600 or 700 bucks from HD.
If you're going for throwovers I can recommend the Khrome Werks bracketswhich keep everything clear of the belt and brake. I'd alreadyrelocated therear turn signals using the Moco kit so I purchased the Wide Glide variant for my Low Rider, bought some longer 3/8 bolts to accommodate the Moco's detachable rack mounts, and the job's a good un. http://www.khromewerks.com/
