Yeah, here is my LaBriola with the tank shifter. With a jockey sifter there is a lot of stress where the jockey shift lever connects and many people have had issues with the transmission lever breaking. the tank shift does not ahve this issue as it uses the horn mount as a pivot point and puts no stress on the tranny lever.
Dr. V, that is awesome. Good info on the jockey shift. I am wanting to to a tank side shifter. (dont know if thats what you call it) But come up on the inside of my left leg and have the shifter at tank height. Using the horn mount, as a pivot, that's sweet! You pretty much have the setup I would like. Although yours if very pretty, and I kind of want a "nasty" setup. Lol.
By the way, your bike is freaking awesome. Love it!
i rode a suicide shovel for about 4 years.left foot clutch.shift lever was about a 6 inch rod coming right off the tranny with a glass doorknob attached to the end and was kinda under and below my butt.18 inch apes on 4 inch risers.rigid frame.
really sucked getting stuck on a hill in rush hour traffic in seattle trying to creep forward as only one car would get thru the light at a time, trying to get in first then get back into neutral and get stopped really fast. if i didnt see any cops i would just split the lane and blow thru the light first chance i saw. when i first got the bike it had no front brake as many of the choppers did in my area at the time.was nice to never break clutch cables anymore.but--i did miss neutral a few times and came within inches of ramming cars.for about 6 months before i sold the bike i went to a standard hand clutch foot shift set up.
glad i changed it as i doubt i could have sold it like that. i have never had another suicide set up and will never run one again.every now and then i do find my hand dropping off the bars and reaching for that little shift lever.
just had to comment on this topic as i found it amusing.
if you run suicide you don't have to worry about anyone stealing your bike.
i didn't even have a key on mine -just a on off toggle switch.
everyone i knew that ran this set up in the 90's,all ride dynas now-pretty much stock,or they are dead.
