I'm wanting to install a set of Intiminators on my 2011 Superglide. New Hagon Nitros on the back have left the front end feeling like my old Schwinn. On a scale of 1-5 my mechanical ability is a 3.06..How difficult is the install??
You will have no problem. You don't have to take the forks off the bike. You can pump out the oil with a marine pump. I would suggest getting a motion pro to measure the fork oil asthey are cheep.
If you're ready to do some reading then search the thread, traxxion springs and ricor intimidators. The hardest thing is dialing in the sag. Well not hard but you have to be willing to take it apart again to cut the spacer if you don't get it right. A lot use preadjusters to avoid some of that.
PM me if you need help sorting things out. And I would strongly reccomend throwing some straight rate traxxion springs in at the same time...they are about 119 and the combo works great.
Thanks for the confidence builder. It sounds like I need to get into this before i get the big picture. just wondering, are the tubes filled with oil that i need to remove with the pump and then measure with the motionpro? Also need to research "sag' Are the springs not attached at the bottom...just pull out? i'd love to see an accurate component /assembly diagram. Anyway, i'll probably contact you when I get the pieces
Inside your forks you've got (from top to bottom) spacers (think thin aluminilum fence post almost), big washer, springs and then your damper rod. And obviously oil all around that. The oil does not have to be pumped out as you will be tearing it all apart and pouring it out to install the intiminators. The motion pro tool is almost a must for measuring your oil level for install though. I built my own using a big washer that I drilled out to fit a solid brake line tube, some rubber flex tube, a large turkey injector syringe and a zip tie to hold the washer in place to the right oil level. Total cost was negligibly lower than what the motion pro sells for. I just didn't want to wait for it to ship. Keep the questions rolling if you need to. There are a number of us who have recently done this or done this quite a few times.
In your shop manuel it shows all the part. Make sure you have one before you start.
Agreed!
And make sure you have a long enough 12mm allen head socket to get to your seat pipe screw on the one side. I found one that worked perfectly from Harbor Freight. It was an impact socket.
not to hijack but since there are so many threads on these Intiminators I thought that I'd ask a couple of basic questions to get myself started as well.
Springs, @rooti you mention the traxion springs, any reason in particular to change from stock? I'm 157 lbs without gear so roughly 170 with.
Price, seems like the intiminators for the Dyna Street Bob are on sale for $180, is that a good price?
Items needed: Oil, motion pro, marine pump (would a small aquarium pump work?) Anything else?
HD, I've gone through your post as well but plan to keep the forks on
