I made a mistake by saying the FXD I meant the FLD. That is why I posted the list of new model stats, Thanks for the correction.

Hard to beat the combination of comfort, handling and speed of the GT pab3rd, don't think I'll sell it for awhile

As far as a factory bike goes you cannot beat a FXDX/FXDXT granted you'll be buying used but these are very sought after bikes for the handling and styling among other factory upgrades. Im not just saying that as a fxdxt owner, I have nothing against any dyna but Im sure most of the dyna owners who have owned or ridden or even know about the fxdx/fxdxt can back me up on this... With that being said nothing can beat aftermarket if you're willing to spend 2-3K. Here is a article might be worth a read http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/mot...er-glide-sport

It depends on who's riding it.

I like the forward controls on my FXDWG but I also added mid pegs for extra foot position. Now I've got the best of both worlds.

Was the best handling and now riding current best handling...
My dealer lets me test ride whatever whenever; plus rode 'em all at Sturgis a few years ago
I liked the idea of the Switchback, but it was the worst for handling and ground clearance
Just my measly opinion (tried the FLH's too, up to a 120R Road Glide; holy huge!)

Interesting. I called the guy at motorcyclemetal.com who was very knowledgeable about suspension setup, and he pretty convincingly recommended against buying a FXDX I was considering. He said that there is basically nothing I can do to the 39mm forks on the FXDX to improve the handling of the bike. Just to mention, I'm a large man, at 6'3" and 280lbs, so I add correct rate springs to any bike I own. Usually not enough preload for me... He basically said I should look at +2006 for the better frame and larger forks (49mm?). His that statement is not considering anything other then suspension, just to say.

My 2009 FXDC came with mids and I left them in place when converting to forwards. They stay
flipped up and out of the way except on long cruises when I kick them down and use them as
alternatives.

Howard is a pretty smart guy when it comes to suspension and handling. You might decide not to do what he suggests but I would take his advice seriously.
Did he happen to mention the idea of installing something like the XR1200 forks on an older Dyna or did he just think the '06 and up was the best expedient? I would probably think that but he knows things I definitely do not.
