It has been a long while since I have posted here. On August 29th of this year, I was involved in a severe accident while riding home from work. A lady abruptly turned in front of me, causing me to crash into her while traveling 40mph. The police report put her at fault and he insurance company has also admitted 100% fault as well.
My pelvis was broken in seven places, I had a partial separation of my spine from my pelvis and I had a small tear in my femoral artery. I was sent via life flight to San Jose Reginal Medical Center where I was treated and released 3 weeks later. My FXDB(it was posted in the Club Dyna section) was totaled. She had 14" t bars, Memphis Shades Cafe Fairing, 13" rear shocks, Thunderheader, Arlen ness big sucker, stage 1 down load, more importantly was MY bike. Super fun and just enjoyed the hell out of it. I miss that bike desperately.
The accident has cost me my military career as I will no longer be able to run and I have also lost my future position with the Sacramento County Sheriffs Department. I do have legal action pending against the woman who caused this, but rather I am alive and that is the important thing. Everyone, I have been riding motorcycles for over 25 years. Whether it be dirt, sport bikes or Harley, I have a lot of time in the saddle. I don't need to say it, but be careful out there. I swore that I would never ride again because of the fear of it happening again. It is never the rider's fault. It is always the morons in their cars. But to not ride again would me not being me. I am looking at probably an FXDL or another FXDB, outlaw style again. BE SAFE EVERYONE and stay vigilant!
That's eerily similar to the wreck I had in July. I don't remember it, but what I'm told is pretty much the same as what you just described, that is, a lady waiting to make a left turn decided she was done waiting while I was going through an intersection at about 40 - also on my way home from work. I got out of the hospital a month later. My last memory of my Sporty is riding home from work, which is a blessing, I suppose. It's a good last memory of the bike.
I can't think of anything useful to say here, except, best of luck to you.
Man I am so sorry to hear your misfortune. In deed it is life altering and for me to simply dismiss this would be rude and insensitive. It is sad to hear of all the misfortune the mistake of this woman has caused you but please do not let this define your life. Take instead this, you are young and although your aspirations were your dreams they were just that. You sound like you have the correct attitude about life and it is your life that is the important part. Take some time and find something that you are passionate about and redirect. The good news is it sounds like you have mostly full mobility and will recover. Live each day as it was your last and feel blessed.
Ride safe,
Bob

It's always hard to read stories like this, but it is a good reminder to some of us who have not been riding for as long as others to constantly be wary and mindful that things can change in an instant (not that it always does much good). Thank you for your positive outlook, as the cliche goes, get back in the saddle and I'm sure all will work out long term for you career wise. You have your health, mobility, and soon I'm sure options will follow.
Sorry to hear about your accident & all that came with it. I hope that lady learned her lesson but I doubt it. Glad to read that you have a positive outlook & can go forward. Good luck, be safe & wear your helmet everyone!!
So glad you are still able to get around and maybe some day be in the wind again. But be prepared for that ride home with your new bike to be scary. At least it was for me. I had to get back on a bike as soon as I could so one week after being released from rehab I brought a bike home. Any car around me scarred the heck out of me. And I have to admit now, I'm just not the rider I was before. I don't have the confidence or balance I once had. I hope you fair better. Good luck in your search though. No getting around it, that part is fun.
