I don't see why not. Obviously the type and thickness will affect how hot it gets.
to give you an example, my son initially had issues keeping the left side of an inexpensive set of gel grips secure on the bars of his KLR. He runs the snowmobile heaters and they get frigging hot as hell on high.
I kept the stock HD grips with the same snowmobile heaters and they work great. I use high to initially heat everything up and then switch to low for the rest of the ride. Works great.
Installed HD heated grips on a friends 2014 Fatboy Lo on Saturday. They seem to work well but were expensive.
The install on the FB Lo wasn't difficult, the hardest part was getting the wires through the bars along with the existing internal handlebar wires....
Polly Heaters seem like a great alternative and after seeing how the install was done on a Buell forum - I ordered them....

Reason: Ordered Polly Heaters
i have them on my dyna. sorry i do not know what brand they are, they were already on the the bike when i bought it. the dealer said he thinks they are hd brand. they have a control **** on the left grip, they work awesome. they make 30 deg rides pleasurable, after a while my hands will sweat. wish i would have used them long ago...
I have HD heated grips and haven't had a great experience with them. I'm now in the market for heated gloves (probably Gerbing) and I can then get the style of grips I like rather than the few styles that are available heated.
I had heat demons. Worked great for 7k miles, then would stay on or the button would stick/not work etc. Then they stopped working all together. They were warm and nice to have when they worked, but only the palm of your hands.
Gerbing heated gloves are amazing. I did not like the wires through the clothes though so what I did was run the harness under the dash and got extension cables that like the phone spiral cord. On and off in a heartbeat. Gerbing also makes a battery operated glove. My brother got those last year and he loves them as there are no wires at all to deal with. If I was looking to get a new pair, hands down the built in battery is the way to go.
