Default SE-204 vs SE-211 cams

I ride a 2002 FXDP Dyna Defender with 32,000 miles and I am preparing to start a major change.
I am adding weight. Installing a FXRP faring with lowers from JD Customs and Installing an FXRT tour pack.

With that said, I am not sure on the cam.

I am not a high RPM rider. I may also be adding a 6 speed trans as well. I do like to cruise at 80mph which now hit about 3400 rpm.

My ol' lady is 105 pounds and I am 240.

I am going with a 95" upgrade. I will be reusing my own heads and porting my barrels. Installing auto compression releases.

My investigation so far says that the 211 is a higher RPM cam and the power is above 3000rpms.

The 204 is not as hot and has a wider and less aggressive power band.

I'm looking at the Woods, Andrews as well the SE.

I will say I see this same question a lot but see no real definitive answers based on riding style, weight or other facts.

I would say forget the 211 and start considering Andrews 48.

Screw the HD stuff. go aftermarket.

95 kit suggestion would be a full Zippers kit or a Dave Mackie job.

I am not sure if the OP has his heads set up for the lift on ANDREWS 48 Cam. If he does and can handle the .548 lift that make a great choice for what he describing. The SE 204 would be a better choice then the SE 211. The ANDREWS 26 be another one to seriously consider.

I have 204's in my 96ci heritage cant compare them to anything but stock.

I can tell you when I race my buddy's same bike that's stock 09 heritage stg 1 96. We are side by side until I hit 3rd then I leave him behind all the way to top end like he just hit reverse. I also out weigh him by 75 lbs easy.

Love the idle and lumpy low speed cruise to 1800 rpm range aint no doubt you are cammed up idling thru town always gets looks.

Skip the 95 and go 98, no reason not to get the most displacement for the buck. 204 makes some great midrange, I've had them make 110ft lbs in 97" with very mild port work. Andrews 37 has always been a good performer also. If you make room in the heads you could run a 57, high lift 37.

The 211's need a bump up in the compression department to really hit their stride. If you don't want to go that route stick with the 204's.

I just installed Andrews 57H in my 96ci and I cannot wait to try them out, I still need to get it dyno tuned. I had actually originally ordered their 48s as HD Pilot suggested but after talking with the tech guys at Andrews, they suggested the 57H for me

I think the 57s are great, I cannot remember the thread I recommened the 48s, but if somebody mentions 2 up, favoring the low rpms, 96" vs 103", etc I will suggest the 48s. If I had a 103" and was not sure about a Big Bore and headwork the 57s would be in!

So for JewBoy, after what he has said I still think the 48s are a better choice that the 57s.

1. They don't port barrels, they bore them.. Porting is for 2 strokes or shotguns..

2. Auto releases will take more than the normal machine work and you'll need to wire in a release system on that model year..

3. Your exhaust pipe will make more of a difference on where your cam comes on than the cam itself. The 211s need compression. At least 10.5 to 1. 204 need less.

4. You'll need an ignition module got with DTT.

5. Cams over 0.51 lift will should have the springs replaced and the valve to stem seal clearance checked. Might be nice to have them ported (polishing is a joke).. 02 heads don't flow very well, they stall at 0.0400 lift so some "street ports" don't do much for the flow and adding lift won't help..

6. If not doing the heads. I'd go for the 211s.. 98 ci is fine but sometimes you can find higher compression pistons for a 95 cheap.
