Default Steering stem adjustment nut

on a 2012 Bob, what the correct orientation of the adjustment nut? I think the tapered or chamfered side goes up toward the upper tree. The service manual shows a different style nut.

Yeah I have a service manual. Thing is that the stock nut on my bike is not like that in the service manual picture.

Mine is flat on one side and tapered on the other with the tabs pretty much centered. The bottom of the top tree has a concave surface so I'm pretty sure the tapered end of the nut goes toward that end (the top).

Just want to be sure before I get too far ahead and then need to go back and flip it.

Your photo is absolutely correct. The service manual drawing is somewhat misleading IMO.

I've been thinking that I need to tear the front steering down and repack or replace the bearings and tweak it up. I know it don't help you much now, but when I tear something like this down, I take photos with my phone or digital camera as I go so I have a good visual record of how it all came apart...I turned wrenches once upon a time in my working life and most the time my recall is good today and I don't need the photos, but when I do become disoriented on how it all goes back together, those photos always save the day...

I ain't much for keeping written records and receipts and stuff and I do try to keep up with them somewhat, but I do have an extensive digital photo record of everything I have done to my old Super Glide...along with all of the receipts and records of what the HD service center has done...
