My frame has the ignition key hole on the right side like a Low Rider set-up. It also has mounts for mid controls. The VIN and factory plates come back as Wide Glide. Was this standard for the year or was the frame replaced by the factory? Thoughts plz?
A factory replacement frame will be stamped with the exact same markings and numbers as the original. Do all the numbers match the title and is the title branded.
I just went through this on an '07 salvage/rebuilt.
The all have the hole for the ignition on the right side of the frame. On the Wide Glide's they just put a sticker over the hole to hide it. So that is inconclusive.
The all have the threaded inserts for forward and mid controls. The factory just put the appropriate controls in on the assembly line. The other inserts got plastic plugs.
I even believe the frame rake is the same on those two bikes, Super Glide would be reduced rake.
A couple of pictures might help, but based on your criteria, now way to tell besides the VIN what the frame started life as.
Does anyone know if the neck is different to receive a narrow glide vs wide glide front end? I think the neck is the same as well. I really think the frame on the Low Rider and Wide Glide, stripped down to just the frame would be identical.
