I just figure they are basing the term "upgrade" on the cost of the bike. Dyna is an "upgrade" from Sportster, Softail is an "upgrade" from Dyna. You know...some people feel the price reflects the quality.
Like others have said...ride what you like and don't give a flip what other people think!
I 'upgraded' from a solid mount 1200S Sportster. Oh I loved that bike and it was a real hot rod but everything went numb on me after about 50mi on the highway. My dyna is 'touring class' by comparison. I can't see adding anymore size, weight or bulk to 'upgrade' to an FL in any configuration.
I don't know that I would call moving from a Dyna to a touring bike an upgrade, I would just call it moving from a girls bike to a..........
How could it be any more obvious that it's the touring bikes which are made for girls? There's room for their hair dryer, curling iron, a large bag of makeup, a microwave, six complete outfits of clothing, eight pairs of shoes, and all the stuff they inevitably pick up shopping whenever they go anywhere....
What real motorcyclist guy would have any use for that kind of space?

I'm not upset. Just confused. Why do grown men feel like what they have is better because it cost more? I could and can buy anything I want to ride. Just don't need a touring bike. I'll probably get one after retirement when I have time to enjoy it. But I will keep the dyna. Thanks for your concern. By the way, I lost my dad last year. Rest assured , I have emotions. Never claimed to be a"biker". Just a guy happy to own a Harley. Peace out.
ok i really didnt want to step into this thread but you have drawn me in...fuq... different bikes for different needs ...true....you can tour just fine on a dyna...i go for a week or so at a time...with a street glide and another dyna.... i dont use a windshield around home cause i too like it in my face, i do however put my fairing on during tours as we ride for 10 hrs a day sometimes and its more pleasant...i like pleasant , im out to have fun.. not be uncomfortable....
oh and fyi..... those street glides have a better lean angle than all of the dynas.......if you can ride ....well you can ride thats about it.....

I wondered how long it would take for the fish to take the bait!

That part is bordering on sketchy. StreetBobs have a better "published" lean angle than StreetGlides on one side, and worse on the other.
But I'm still trying to figure out what published and claimed lean angles mean. Do you tip a stationary bike over until something touches the ground, or do you measure it with the suspension compression which happens when actually going around a corner?
As far as I've been able to tell, there is no standard measuring method.
Harley furnishes numbers, but doesn't explain how they were derived.

Maybe they meant upcharge instead of upgrade..? lol
Not trying to be too high brow, my take is that the non "enlightened" fight over which brand/type/color of motorcycles are the best ones, but they're all rooted in the same transcendent, transformational type of phenomena we're all addicted to...
I own and ride different brands/types. I frequent chat groups for all these brands. The thing that never changes in these type of thread discussions is the opinions of posters that berate one brand against another with the associated stereotypes. Even the chats/threads within the HD brand, there's contention as to which model is a beginner, girl's bike, SOA wannabe, geezer, not a true Harley (V-Rod), who's a real biker and who's not, should I wear chaps or not, do real bikers wear chaps, etc... Whew, what a soap opera!
I'm going for a ride...
