I ride an SG and a Softail standard. With the forwards on the SG it is just as comfortable as the Softail but handles better. I am 6'0" 250# ride the SG with a solo seat. Just my .02
6' 3" 225, first and only bike is a FXD that came with 12" or so apes and extended forwards. Fit is awesome. I've sat on a bunch of touring bikes, and would never go that way without moving the floorboards and tilting them. I need forwards to make it so my knee is not above my hips. Maybe even the extended. Sure ot puts pressure on your butt, but a better saddle is easy. My set up will take me from tankfull to the next fill up.
6' 1", 280 pounds. I put the peg extender things on my bike and they did the trick. If I need to stretch my legs out, I just rest the backs of my legs on them instead of the bottom of the boot.
6'1" @ 280, 32 inch inseam...ride a Super Glide with a Mustang Wide Vintage, forwards, with highway pegs up on the engine guards. Typical rides are 2-3 hours, or more. I rode it from Houston to North East Alabama and back in July, 2013...a little hard on my narrow butt after 5-6 hours in the saddle but not unbearable.
I'm 6' and about 3 bucks. I've got an 11 SB with forwards on it. I've logged 700 mile days on it. Pretty comfortable. Of course the first part of a trip is whole tank, thenas the day goes on I have to stop more often.
If you go with a SB then you need forwards, with WG you need taller bars (my wife has one).
I have added a Corbin touring saddle with back rest. Much more comfy, and longer pegs too. Drag Specialties makes mine. A DK air cleaner helped with the knee clearance issue also.
