My dealership has a Saturday morning special on oil changes. $19 if you get there before Noon. They change the oil while you wait (during which time they expect you to wander the showroom and buy a few H-D accessories)
I can't buy the parts for less than $25 retail, so I took them up on it.
Their wrenches should read this post.
I got my bike back 30 minutes later and the engine was covered in oil. Sigh. You get what you pay for. Later that same day, I spent more than $5 worth of my time and Simple Green washing the oil off my powder coated engine.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your ideas. I'm spending the extra $5 to do it myself and will try the 2 liter bottle and/or ziplock bag.

They forgot to mention cleaning the bike is another $19.........j/k......
$19 oil chage at a stealer?? I think the stealers up here are around $40!!.
K&N chrome filter with 11/16 nut on end- $14
afew quarts of Amsoil- $15
and an old 2 liter Mountain Dew bottle work for me.
I remember those years...you didn't have to worry about getting oil on the engine during an oil change.
you had to worry about how to keep the oil IN the engine ...AND not on the garage floor. LOL
Your right about that, below is a photo of a fresh build after a couple of rides with a Harley Davidson accessory of the good old days below the bike.
As far as removing the filter, I used a plastic coke bottle that I cut in half and trimmed the end to fit up against the filter housing. But since I installed the forward controls I found it easier to just put a drain pan under the bike, then wash the bike after the engine has cooled down.
I forgot to mention that for my hard earned $19, the stealer put a chrome oil filter on my black denim Bob. With a powder coated engine. The wrench must have thought he was doing me a favor, 'cause obviously everyone loves a chrome oil filter! I took a pic at the dealership so I could make fun of him behind his back. I wasn't a jerk (in person) about the spilled oil or chrome filter, because I had just received a $20 oil change. Beggars can't be choosers, right? It was my own damned fault for letting someone else change my oil.
