[:'(]Has anyone came up with a way to pull the oil filter off and not get it all over the front of the engine. Harley's engineers didn't think on that design too long.
The best/cheapest way of doing that I've found is to take a piece of newspaper and fold it up the long way into sort of a funnel and put it under the filter. As you unscrew the filter, the oil (usually) runs down the paper into a pan or whatever you use to collect the oil Foolproof, no, but it's quick and cleanup is minimal.
Do a search, there are a lort of different methods. One invlves using tin foil as opposed to newpaper, another involves poking the end of the filter and letting it drain into the drain pan, another method cut a 2 liter soda bottle down and put that around the filter so when you take off the filter the bottle catches the oil.
I used a plastic ziploc bag the last time and it worked great.
Just get the filter started enough that you can turn it by hand, slip the bag over it and spin it off.
