So I know that there is a million was to make your ride your own. I just bought my 2014 Dyna Switchback FLD. Right now it is pearl grey but I have a picture perfect view in my mind of what I want it to look like when it is exactly how I want it. How do I find the right people in my area that will help? Should I just start at the nearest Harley dealership hoping someone knows someone or is there a better way? I know this is open to what do you want, what parts are you looking for and all of that.
What I would like is to be able to take it to someone explain what I want and they help me make it happen. Any suggestions as to where to start?
FLD is a great starting point--wish I had your front end for my street bob!
This forum is a great source for questions and ideas.
You might want to check out the FL Dyna group--depending what style your going after--these guys kinda invented the FLD out of regular Dyna's before HD started producing them. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/group...est-group.html
I would ask around at the dealer and some indy shops. It might help to know what you want to do to it. Ask around to find a body shop that does bikes and is good at it for body work. If that is something you want done.
You are only limited by your imagination and your wallet.
I would say the dealership might be a good place to start. Just remember that HD is in the business of selling HD parts. Personally I do most of my own work. If I run into something I can't handle I have a couple of local independent motorcycle shops that I use. Look at the bikes that the owners ride and you will know if they are the mechanics for you. They are more familiar with aftermarket parts.
Just because the part doesn't say HD on it does not mean that it is low quality. Once I realized that 90% of the parts that say HD on the front also say Made in China or Taiwan on the back it became much easier for me to start using aftermarket parts. (a huge savings over HD stuff).
My philosophy is to build the bike I want not the one that HD or anyone else says I should want.
I have attached a before and after picture of my 99 Wide Glide.
