rsd fork adjuster caps
. And before i even attempted to do the install i noticed the adjusters were a different socket size as the factory fork caps....i cannot seem to find the socket i need for the rsd adjusters to install....the directions say to use an adjustable wrench but the manuel says to torque so i need a socket to use my torque wrench....has anyone else done this install what size socket did u use or what alternative method did u use?
I went to sears autozone and o rielys and home depot today looking for tue right socket....seems like none of the stores carried a 31mm 12 point socket seems like that might fit if i can find out. However i always thought everything harley was standard not metric except battery and brakes.
I'd try ACE Hardware, too, if there's one not far from you.
If these are the pieces you're talking about, do you know how to check sag and such?
First thing I would do is bookmark some threads, I'll give you mine since I have links within that go to the proper spots (like oil height, and sag)
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...led-today.html
First determine how much sag you want. In my case I wanted between 30-33%. My total fork travel is 4.5 inches so I wanted sag at about 1.5 inches.
The easiest way is to simply put the bike on a jack and lift the front wheel off the ground. Then take a grease pencil and mark your desired sag on the slider so in my case I made a mark at 1.5 inches.
Then I place two zip ties attached end to end around the slider and slid it down to the seal and lowered the bike. Obviously when you lower the bike you get some compression on the forks which will push the zip ties up a bit (but hopefully not to your mark). Then I sat on the bike and tried to balance for a few seconds feet off the ground. This gives you your laden sag and pushes the zip ties up a bit more. Hopefully to about the mark that you did on the slider.
If the zip tie is below your mark after sitting on the bike then you lessen the preload on your adjusters. If it's above the mark then you tighten your adjusters and re-test. Both adjusters should be adjusted the same amount.
Obviously all this assumes that you have your spacers cut the way you need based on your new spring length, your weight, etc. Use that chart that is referenced on page one of my thread. There are also a ton of videos since I'm sure my explanation is fraught with mistakes
