This is my new oil color after 45 miles. When i wipe my dipstick on a towel the color is more gold than black. But i found it strange that it is that color after only 45 miles even if it mix with the remaining oil in the engine.
I think you are ok, just overserviced. remove enough oil till the dipstick reads in between the add and full line. New oil filter shouldn't be necessary.
I have a 2015 FXDB and oil is very black since new, this is my second Harley. since there is usually .5 to .75 Qts that cannot be removed, your 2 or so quarts that you added will look as your picture shows. In couple oil changes your oil will look like gold
That looks too dark. Are you sure that you drained ALL the oil? I would change it again. Run the bike for several miles to heat it up, and make sure that you remove the dip stick when draining. New oil, new filter, ride for 5 or so miles, and check the level.
If you want your oil to look clean you'll have to buy or do a DIY scavenger. Short of it is that you'll change the oil then run it with the device or a line disconnected letting it pump oil through until it runs clean, then top it off to replace what you lost while flushing.
Evos and Twin Cams are done differently so you'll have to google and research it on how the right way for your bike. I'm able to do mine by just running it without a filter on, but you can't with yours. You'll get a lot of feedback, many say its not necessary, but some swear by it. In my case I wanted to flush it and I ran a full quart through. It looks clean and like brand new oil after 150 miles. Good luck!
Good new i went to the dealer today and they told me it was normal that the oil was black because it mix with 0.5 L of old breaking oil still in the engine. So just by precaution i did a new oil change and now my oil is more on the gold. The burned smell was from the oil in the air cleaner when i overfill it the first time, i've clean the mess and went for a ride and everything good. Thanks a lot guys!
