Default Helmet buffeting

I plan on a trip from MN to SC in a couple weeks. I have a FXDX with a windshield that I can just look over. My helmet gets buffeted so much that everything is blurry. I've just found out the air is coming from below and causing the buffeting. Does anybody have a solution that worked for you? Thanks!! (This is my first post...not sure if I'm in the right spot)

Many here say the AeroVest works. The turbulence comes from the wind riding up your legs which serve as perfectly-angled airfoils. That turbulence is always there and not the product of adding a windshoeld as many here state. Riding without a shield just masks the lower turbulence with all the other wind in your face.

I ride sans shield around town and even on some longer rides when I'm riding solo. But for four or five hours of 75+mph highway riding, I'll take the leg turbulence over the alternative any day. Just tighten the helmet strap a little. [8D]

Have the same problem here with my 03 SG. Have HD compact shield.
Wind is unbearable at 50+mph.
So far the only solution I found is Jacks Aerovest.
The flaps keep the wind off your face when using a shield.
Has a money back guarantee. Quality item.
Might be worth a try.

I had the same problem, on a 1400 mile trip.. Took a lot of the enjoyment out of the trip away.. When I got back I looked into the Memphis Shades lowers.. I'll never take another trip without them.. I can now cruize at 65 or 70 mph with a baseall cap on (bill forward). no buffeting at all................. Highly recommend them.. Not great looking, but on the long trips I dont care... I take the windsheild and lowers off for around town.. But when I take the 'Road Trip'. they go on..
I'm at work now when I get home this eve. I'll post photos... Come to think of it ,the photos should be on the forum somewhere, I've recommended them before.....

Adjusting the angle of the shield helps,a small bag at the base of the shield helps,a tank lift helps a good bit, tightening the helmet down good helps, adjust the height to where you can easy see over the top but not much lower. Agree that Jack's vest would probably help, never tried one.

Good Luck

Tom

I've seen some deflectors that a person could put on the forks below the windshield that might help the buffeting. But, I think that a person has to live with the wind on a motorcycle. You know, Against the Wind, it'sa lifestyle. If you want to beat the wind you really need to go with a full dresser.

I cut my WS down today by 3" and test rode it. Helped big time. Still buffets but not nearly as bad. There is also a product that goes around the lip of the windsheild to break up the turbulance.
I am planning on trying this myself:
