2006 Dyna problems
Someone had posted a problem with their head light beam bouncing around at night.
I found my headlight shell was loose where it is rivited to the mounting bracket.
I moves around enough and rattles to the point I can hear it with the engine running and
my helmet on.
1. Bike is very "jerky" between 15 and 45 mph. (Not carb farts or backfiring)
It is missing or not firing consistantly.
This happens when the bike is at speed and is no longer accelerating or slowing down.
I travel 30 miles round trip to work and back every day and my max speed is normally 45mph
and I travel in heavy traffic so this is and extreme problem for me.
You will not notice this if you take off down the road and tac it out in all gears. It happens when you
are up to speed between 15 and 45mph and the bike is no longer accelerating or slowing down.
Example if you would be riding at 55 or 65 mph and come into a town or speed zone 45 or less it
is very apparent. Sometimes it has seems like it is going to stop running when it misses like that.
And I am NOT lugging it down, it will do it in 1st, 2nd or third gear. Maybe a bad coil ??
2. Speedometer needle is not steady but is jerky too. Sometimes it will jump 5mph at a time and it
seems to do it at the same time the engine is missing or jerky. This drives me crazy and I have
watched it do this for well over 1000 miles !!! ( have 1500 on it now)
If I had to take a wild uneducated guess I would think that maybe #1 and #2 are related and may be
an electrical problem or possibly the new design where they have it programmed to intentionally miss
at idle when it gets too hot may be on all the time. If I remember right when it hits 250 degrees it does not
fire every third time until the temp gets back down to normal when it is at idle.
The owners manual warns about it and it is normal at idle.
Also the frame welds are very poor and they have bird $hit on them that was not ground off before painting.
This is only my humble opinion but I am not seeing the high quality in my 06 that was in my other Harleys
That is my b1tch session for today ![:@]

Take it to the dealer. Sounds like an electrical problem to me. Make sure your plug wires aren't loose.
Today, my 04, Superglide started doing some funky stuff. The horn, signals, speedo, and brake light quit working. When I turned on the key, the signals would go into flasher mode for about 7 flashes then quit. I thought that I had serious problems. I looked at the fuses, they were a bit corroded but no biggie. The dealer said that it was corrosion on the accessory fuse. He replaced the fuse and all is well. I think that you have a poor connection somewhere.

I agree totaly. I have the 06 WG,and my buddy has the 05 Street bob, adn neither one of us have had a single problem. Point being, I think it may be an isolated electrical problem? I do remember seeing on here somewhere that you put slip on pipes. Did you reemap? Could that be part of the problem? I hope you get it figured out so you can enjoy your new bike, please let us know what it turns out to be.
Nope it has done it with the stock mufflers and 2 different sets of slipons.
Dealer had a Bob on the DYNO sniffer and they claim it is not
necessary to remap until you put a high flow AC on as well as
the pipes. They said HD says OK to put slipons on without remap
also.
Thanks for the reply

Just a shot in the dark,
Try cleaning and re-gapping your spark plugs.
This may help smooth out problem #1
("jerky" between 15 and 45 mph)
I know your thinking "but it's a new bike"
I had the same problem with my 05 FXDWG
during the first 500 miles. So I cleaned &
re-gapped the plugs and all smoothed out
right away.

You sound pretty convinced of a fuel or electrical issue but have you checked your primary chain? My '05 WG that I purchased new last May jerked liked crazy and I had it to the dealer 2 times. Three different techs drove the bike and then said that I needed to put on pipes and do a re-map because the bike was just too lean from the factory. I didn't agree and did some of my own investigating and pulled my primary cover. Sure enough, the chain had nearly 2" of play in it and it is only supposed to have 3/8" to 5/8" according to Harley's service manual (the service manual even mentioned the jerky operating tendencies with a loose chain). I adjusted the chain to the proper spec and all of the jerks went away. As far as the "jerks" at the dealer, well that's another story..........[sm=icon_beat.gif]
Actually I had it in to the Dealer today and they found the nut loose that holds the main pri
gear on. That helped it by about 30%.
They called HD tech support and they are aware of the problem and call it "surging"
They are working on the problem but do not have a solution yet. The EPA has such tight
specs on them that the bikes are running VERY lean.
They (dealer) said they could fix it by putting a "race tuner" on it and about 2 to 3 hours on the Dyno
which would cost me from 600 to 800 dollars. SOOooooo I said I would rather wait for HD
to come up with a solution under warranty.
Makes me wish more and more it had a good old carb on it.

Nope, no remap available yet unless you get the race tuner.
That is what HD is working on.
Also I am running the stock air cleaner and the sniffer detected zero difference
between stock mufflers and the slip ons.
Waiting Game !

Willie, my dealer here in San Antonio is selling brand new 06 dynas with a stage 1 installed by the service dept. this includes a down load. Supposedly, (according to the technician who does them) the digi-tech used to down load this has a screen which asks if you are using slip ons or not (yes-no) the bikes run great too. I'm still skeptical though based on what ive learned on the net. I will ask to SEE this screen shot before buyiong this down load. Other wise, i'll go with a PCIII or SERT
