just a idea
Amazon.com: Bestem CHHD-STDLX-DR Chrome Driver Backrest for Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe: Automotive Amazon.com: Bestem CHHD-STDLX-DR Chrome Driver Backrest for Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe: Automotive

If you are doing home made. Look at your docking points for strength and ability to access. Then you can come up with a mount and pick a BR that will work with your idea.
I like to use mustang backrests as a start. They are very versatile because of the design. the receiver is very easy to make to make it removable. Think out of the box

I'm also looking for a drivers backrest for my Wide Glide but would like to keep my stock seat. One would think that Harley would gladly tap into that market.

If I run into anything when searching that will work on a 2007 SB, I'll post a link here.

Great link and so close. Looks like it is supposed to bolt up right where my quick release saddlebag hardware is installed. Darn it. I was so excited for a moment.

HD makes one for the sportster.

I don`t understand why one isn`t made for the Dyna line.
Other than fabbing one up from scratch, maybe reversing a set of detachable side plates would work. You still would have to customize a back pad bar though to get the right angle for your back.

Maybe talk to someone who fabs stuff? If you are wanting to go the DIY route I second the reversing of side plates.

Firewoman-you might be able to still use your detach bags with it. Maybe post up some pics of your mounts and see if someone has some ideas...?

I am digging that one with the rack. If you aren't running a passenger pillion it would be pretty sweet for travel.

If you figure out some prices you might compare them against a different saddle. They are much more comfortable. If you don't just have your heart set on the factory unit.

The inner part is where my passenger backrest attaches. The outer part is where the bags attach.

HD sells clothes for dogs but not drivers backrests for Dyna's, explain that concept. LOL Maybe I'll e-mail HD customer service and point out that they are missing a marketing opportunity.

Other an the "cheap" look that HD often gives there late thought out inventions, this seems like it could very well work for a Dyna. Now you would have to widen the supports some and tweak the mounting plates for mounting, but..................fab work is what we Dyna owners do to get what we want anyways.

Says the guy with hard bags!! LOL

Firewoman-I guess there are more naked dogs running around then peeps who want a Dyna solo backrest....LOL
Looking at your set up I was wondering if maybe you could shave off the spacer where the back rest bolts to the fender....? It looks like there might be a decent amount of material there to just go on the outer section of your brackets.

No offense meant. Just stating that you know that mods are necessary first hand ! Pretty sure your bags are not just simple bolt on units.
