When would I expect to replace [X] ?
I'd originally planned to ride it for a couple of years and then trade it for something newer but I'm still enjoying it and so want to keep it ... which means I need to think about what non-frivolous work I should expect to need. Since I've had it servicing has been regular and it's mostly running well but I'm noticing some new rattles and ticks so I'm trying to get some collective wisdom as to what I should look into, and how long things should last before needing someone with a wrench to go wild...
might be an interesting table to put together for the various years and models, but to start it off my selfish interest would love to hear what you think my baby will need....
Oh, and if it matters it was given a Stage 1 (Power Commander, Air and exhaust) before I got it.
- clutch?
- primary drive?
- front forks?
- cam plate/hydraulic lifters?
- front engine mount (I hear they don't last well)
- saddle (
I think the foam is going, or I'm getting fatter!)- anything else?
These are repairs over the years, all are common repairs.
Quick connect, gas tank replaced. It was leaking. When my Indy replaced it, he also put a new, shorter gas line in. Was known for rubbing against tank, and getting a pinhole.
Then SE Cam chain tensioner upgrade, front engine mount, rebuild front calipers, lower base gasket leak.
BTW, this one is a biggie. Those "rattles and ticks" you're hearing could be the cam chain tensioner pads going to pieces and clogging up your oil pump. Check that and address it pronto.
