Default 88-B Ballance assembly

I never really gave it much thought until the thread about "Muffler Bearings" came up. But now I'm thinking about things I usually don't think about.
Any one know what the average life of the chain and related items is in a balanced TC 88 Motor?

Some have gone as early as 12K and as long as 75K miles. Avg I would say is 25K miles.
I think it's how you treat the throttle as to the life of the twin cam.

Powaway, I think you're confusing the cam chain tensioners with the counter balance chains in the 88B engine. I've spoken to my dealer several times about the counter balance assembly in the 88B and the 96B. He told me that they haven't had to replace any chains due to failure. Said he wouldn't worry about it for 100K miles. I've got 65K miles on one of mine and 35K miles on the other bike, no problems.

Default counterbalancer chain failure

I have 36K on my 03 nightrain...and mine locked up on me at about 50mph ...thought i was going down...slid 126 feet and kept the bike up...counterbalancer chain exploded...killed the oil pump....funny i just had it in the dealership the year before because one of the counterbalancers came loose...i thought i had blown the motor...they related the counterbalancer was loose and they tightened it back up to specs....i did'nt give it another thought...now i wonder why they didnt replace the chain then?...i would think if the counterbalancer came loose the chain would be affected...now that i look back on it...good thing i have been riding 36 years or i would have really hurt myself...harley is not going to do anything of course...so now i have to lineup a lawsuit...to get them to realize this is a problem that can kill ya...anyone want to join me?

With there being 151,226 member on HDForums it pretty easy to find someone with a obscure problem to make you think the sky is falling.
