Default Outer primary cover models?

I'm planning the forwards to mids mod on my bike and are searching ebay for parts. I understand the I can drill out my inner primarycover, but I'm a bit confused about the outer one.

My bike is a 14 fatbob. Did they mod the cover in 2010 and 2014? Some covers say they will fit up to 2010 and I think I've red somewhere that they did some kind of modification in 2014 aswell ( Chain tensioner? )?

So do I need a cover from a 2014-up streetbob or will older covers work?

I think an older cover will work but you have to use the plastic oil bath gizmo glued inside the older covers for the upgraded primary compensator. Dealer should know the P/N. I replaced the compensator in my '07 and the kit came with the plastic oil bath dealio. Requires special glue too. 128auto did a write up some time back. I believe the newer inner and outer primary covers have the oil bath shield built in.

If you can, get a 14+ cover.

Just put a '15 outer cover on my 09 and the only difference I saw was the built in thingy for oil for the newer compensators.

Ok. I really don't know what thingy you're referring to, but I guess I'm looking for a 14 up then. Thanks...

The 14+ compensator requires oil to be flung at it from the cover. Naturally the pre 14 models don't do this so you have to glue a plastic scoop to those covers when installing the 14+ compensator. The 14+ cover has the scoop cast in via ribs.

Look up a thread by HD Pilot - he did a mid install on a fwd control Fat Bob. There should be a lot of good info in there for you.

Edit: here it is: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...-mids-mod.html

Yeah, the 2014 and up outer primary cover is what you need for your compensator - Matt's dead on as usual.

The fwd to mid controls is one of my favorite mods for sure, I feel much more in charge of the bike now and don't drag my heels around corners any more. If you enjoy maneuvering more than cruising, you will love the mids!

Yeah I got rid of the forwards fast, but I took the easyroute and changed to FXDP floorbords. Just didn't wanna bother with the whole primarycase-swapping. The floorbords put my feet higher and furter back, but when this season is over I'm thinking of going mids and chain
