My buddy is thinking about buying a 99 fxdx from a local guy.. Seller said he installed a heavy duty chain and now the bike whines in higher gears.. I haven't dealt with chains in years so I'm clueless.. Seller said it didn't make any noise before the chain upgrade.. Bike only has 4k miles and cams. He claims in run like a raped ape in second gear but that he won't ride it anymore due to the sound.. Hes willing to let it go for 4k and my buddy seems to really want it.. Any ideas of what the seller could have messed up when he changed chains and how difficult are they to replace

 

New chain? Where?

 

I asked if it was the primary or cam chain and he just said rear chain.. I'm thinkin maybe the whine is from the tensioner but idk.. I only ask because I'll be the one fixing it for him and that something I've never had to do on a harkey.. I haven't tore into any engines since my old Honda days

 

The seller is adamant thatnit has a rear chain so I assume someone before him converted it to chain driven and I'm not about to mess with all of that.. Sorry for the worthless posts lol
