Hey guys, I'm new here. Just got a 2015 street bob vivid black in april. Within the first week I got a chip in my paint at the back right underside of my gas tank. It wasn't noticeable unless you bent down and looked under the tank.
I decided just to fill it in with a touch up pen since it was in a place that isnt really noticeable. Then over the weekend i wash my bike and wax it and notice something strange in the reflection of my chrome air intake. i look at the bottom of my tank right above the air intake and theres another chip. It looks like it may have been caused by a pebble.
so, I touched this up also since it too was in a unnoticeable place. It was on the same side as the last chip except right beneath the air intake.
I'm not sure if this is normal, I did not have this issue with my previous bike and I do not ride around in gravel or anything.
Is this pretty normal, is there any way I can stop this from happening. I have not got a chip on the kickstand side of the bike. I'm just unsure why I am having this issue.
No clue besides luck of the draw. Never heard of this before, but hopefully if there is a problem someone else can point that out, and have some advice on it.
Every bike I've ridden has got a rock chip or two, I ride a short stint of gravel to get to work but I think the chips come from when I get on the interstate. Usually from from following a little too close and somebody gets near a rumble strip up front and stuff gets kicked up. I've got one on the front of my tank on my street bob that you can't see unless you bend down and look for it too. It happens.
But I think if you keep getting chips in the same area or it starts flaking, I would talk to the dealer and see if they'll warranty faulty paint. I certainly wouldn't want a low quality paint job that's going to peal if improper prep wasn't taken before paint.
