Default Japanese front brake upgrade?

Fellas.
I'm looking to hear from anyone who has swapped out their stock front brake calipers for Japanese ones.
I have an '01 FXDX with dual calipers and I've tried many things to make the front brakes better, but they still suck, so I'm pondering this cure rather than throw more money at the problem.

If anyone can help with the following questions:
1) Is there a particular brand (tokico, nissin, etc.) that "fits better". (I know that I would need a bracket a la Fab Kevin regardless)
2) Can I use the Japanese m cyl? i.e. Will it mate with the MoCo's switch housing?
3) Will I need floating rotors?

I'm aware of the HD Brembo option, but from what I know about Japanese braking, this would seem a more effective, and less expensive solution.

Thanks for your time, and my apologies if this has already been covered.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!
Any particular year of GSXR calipers? Any other parts to buy in order to make it work?

Thanks for the reply.

Dyna bagger recently did this. He will likely chime in or search for his thread.

From what I remember its GSXR 600's but I'm not sure of what year. Probably newer models, like 06+ but might want to check on Speed Merchant's site. Pretty sure you still use the dual disk HD 11/16" master cylinder lines but dont quote me on that

I used a set of 2001 GSXR750/1000 Tokico calipers on my 95 Road King. Hooked them up to the stock master cylinder and a set of stock replacement braided hoses. Works a treat. (Made my own caliper mount brackets. But Fab Kevin can supply them.)

A good master cylinder will make a big difference. If you're going to do the brakes then also looking into the master. I would suggest a Brembo 19RCS if you have dual calipers. If you have 1" bars like most Harleys you will have to specify that as well. I changed my master on my 15 Street bob and the feel in the lever is much better. The only trick for me was dealing with the canbus system and the brake light switch. Harley is opposite of just about everyone else. I had to make my own switch. With you having a older bike then it might not be a problem at all.

I did the speed merchant bracket with on my 06 dyna (single disc). I reused my stock master cylinder. The calipers it requires are 06-up gsxr 600 calipers (mono block radial caliper). I am very please with it and it gives a significantly stronger break handle feel. I upgraded at the same time to blacked out stainless. Let me see if I can find you a link to my write up
