Default 2011 Wide Glide Starts Hard

Every once in a while when starting the bike she'll take quite a bit to crank. If I hold the ignition button too long I will hear a loud grinding noise. So I let it crank for a few seconds if she doesn't crank I push it a second time and she starts right away. She's got 11k miles on her. Thanks for the help!

The grinding noise could be a problem with the starter. As for hard starting, the simplest thing to check is the connections at the battery terminals. A while back, one of mine came loose and was causing sluggish cranking.

Yea same here, I thought maybe it'd be a tuning issue as well.

That was my first thought too. The starter draws a bunch of electricity and drops voltage under load. If you have an old or weak battery it has a tendency to give the coil less voltage and therefore a weaker spark to the plugs, which in turn may not be firing as hot as necessary for that quick start. When these things occur on my equipment I head to the battery first before looking elsewhere.
