Default Shifter Shaft

2011 Superglide-going in to replace the leaking seal on the shifter shaft-have the outside cover off-looking at the chain and adjuster-do I need to take THAT off before taking the inside cover off? Or can i get that off without taking all that other stuff off?--Thanks

The primary chain, crank pulley and clutch assy. comes of to get the inner case off. For a $1.95 seal! Don't forget the starter jackshaft.

+1 The manual is worth the price. Pays for itself over time.

Yeah, looking through my 2012 SM the instructions to getting at that seal are not listed out, just have to kinda figure what to do on your own.

If you ever wanted to do the 30T mod, this is a good time. Also a good time to clean and lubricate your jiffy stand. Be sure to clean all your fastener holes and the reused fasteners - I got a Craftsman Rethreading Kit that works great:

That's why I'm gonna let mine leak (it's not too bad) until I have a real good reason to pull off the inner primary.
