here is a pic of my modify backing plate. the oil mist goes into the external filter. have not had any oil residue on the engine case sense modification.
If this is the style of intake you're interested in why not order the DK Custom 636v complete kit instead, it's designed from the ground up for use with external breathers. With the kit you've pictured you'll be modifying it to set it up for external venting, the DK Custom 636v kit will make your install much simpler and their breather bolts work very well, I'm running them with their 587 intake on my '13 Wide Glide. You can also add their discrete breather kit when you order their intake if you prefer that style: http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/Outl...636V-TC-CS.htm
I won't worry too much about valves at this point, this is most likely operator error Your oil level should be between the full and add marks on the stick on a cold check, no more. I don't worry about seeing how much mileage I can get from spendy synthetics, instead I use VR1 SAE 50 weigh oil and just change it more frequently, I have no oil carry over into the breathers; running breather bolts it would be all over the bike if there was. These are air cooled machines and you should be checking your fluids on a continuous basis, if you find your cold check is not at the middle of the stick it only takes an ounce or two to put it back where it belongs; overfill and the oil carry over ends up out the crankcase breathers and if you're not venting to atmosphere that carry over gets puked back into the intake and engine... and that's nasty
Both of my Dyna's oil level cold is about 1/2 inch from full. My 13 Road Glide is at the level HD recommends on the 103 engine. We just returned from a 1800 mile trip out east and back with no loss of oil, the 103 engine. Around town the 88 and 95 uses nary a drop of oil. Did you check your plugs, if they are black and sooty you have other problems. The setup have will vent oil vapors but the oil will condense in the little breather and then eventually start dripping on the cases. Good luck.
