Beating a dead horse about checking oil level...sorry
Well, this morning I went to ride my rig the 48 miles to the base and decided that I needed to make sure the oil level was kosher since it is a 96 mile round trip. I warmed the bike up about 5 minutes rode it around the back yard once and then shut her down. Checked back about 5 min after and the oil dipstick read between the second and next to the lowest "X" before the fill mark. I had checked it cold as well and it was right at the line between the 6th and 7th "X" before cranking. Am I burning oil? This is a BRAND NEW BIKE!!! I have a few times seen a black puff of exhaust when cranking up in the mornings.
I previously owned a Street Bob that had an oil sensor leak, but the engine on my 11 is not the same.
Need some advice here bros. I am going out to see again if this is the case or not.
Thanks, also, if I add some oil, what can I use from Wal Mart since it is late here in the evening?
I have Vance & Hines pipes that come within(tooo close) of an inch to check dipstick when hot, so went with the HD LED temp/oil level guage- pricey, but only took one burned knuckle to decide that the price was right- Now I have peace of mind by checking oil in "hot" mode everytime I shut it off--
Theres also nothing wrong with checking your oil cold its just going to be lower I believe. To the OP I would not worry about it unless its super low and or your leaking if neither apply just ride it. Good luck
