Well, after throwing around ideas and changing my mind a bunch of times, I have decided to keep my stock spoked Street Bob wheels, but have them power coated to match the black theme I'm trying to do. So I did some searching and found HDWHEELS.COM which happens to be located about 20 minutes from my parents house. So I e-mailed for a quote and this is what I got back. $112 to disassemble, re-lace and true the wheel. $65 to powder coat the rim and $65 for the hub. Which works out to $242 per wheel, with the option for polished stainless spokes and nipples for an additional $80 per wheel. At the same time the will do the stock pulley for $50. I think it sounds like a good price, but what do you guys think?
I think i'd me more concerned with the turn around time...How long will your scoot be down? I know that Custom Chrome has powder coated rims in there new catalog and you would be able to mount new tires and have you bike be down a day..Just my $.02...Nice weather is here how much of it are you willling to miss? Plus selling your old rims after will help make up some of the purchase price... http://www.customchrome.com/catalogs...l.asp?page=759
Do it! That is a good price and you will be using your own hardware rather than some aftermarket wheels made in some where-ever third world country.
I would strongly recommend you go with the polished stainless spokes/nipples while you are doing it. You will be glad you spent the extra $80 per wheel.......pg
Hey nkauf21...the price is good, and you are using your own parts! A HUGE plus in MHO! Opt for the polished spokes and nipples, as well as the pulley! If you don't you'll second guess yourself for a long time, and probably end up doing it later and then paying twice for the labor! I hate it when that happens!
These are very nice people to deal with. I have bought
2 sets of black powdercoated spokes from them with no
problems. I was thinking of doing my rims but opted for the
spokes instead, I justcould notseem to keep the factory spokes
clean so thats why I went with the black ones.
