Default FXDWG Front Tire Upgrade

I have seen posts from Wide Glide owners about switching to a 21/90/90 front tire. Is there that much difference between this size and the stock 21/80/90? If so I may just bite the bullet and replace mine now even though it only has 1700 miles on it. Just curious here. thanks

I went to the Avon venom 90x90 and have been pleased for the last 100,000 miles

I have the Avon Roadrider 90/90 and have been happy with it so far. It measures an actual 92mm wide mounted, so you can compare that with the width of your 80/90.

It's going to wider and a hair taller. The width will make for a minimal improvement in handling, traction, and braking.

Personally I couldn't see running anything more narrow than a 100, just because I use 100% of the tread surface currently. But I also have a street bob with the 19in front wheel.

I don't know of a 100/21. Do you?

The Street Bob and Wide Glide are not even close to the same. When you can use all 100% of a 21" front on a WIDE GLIDE please post up images... hint... you can't. I've had my '13 WG on a closed track and it's just not going to happen, you'll bury the hard bits long before you can get to the edge. Best I can do is 1/4" chicken strips on the front, the only effective way to maintain good corner speed on a Wide Glide is using the hook turn technique, the lean angles simply are not there.

golferguy, I've measured a 90/90-21 ME880 and the difference in width from stock was about 8mm, it will fit with no problem and the ME880's with a 90/90-21 are what I'm replacing my current tires with...

There really isnt a reason to replace it until it wears out, unless you just like throwing money at it. it is not going to make any difference in handling, unless your current "almost new" tire is hard as a rock.

Referring to lean angles: my 02 wg used to drag the corners a lot, so I put on the progressive-- 1/2" longer than stock rear shocks. What a difference that made. Now, I really have to lay it over to drag anything,(and it rides much better too.). When stock, all I had to do was think about it and it would scrape the pipes-- now, I am pushing it in order to scrape. And being close to 70, doesn't happen too often anymore-- lol

Well this thread really went off course pretty quick. The 21/90/90 will be fine. Just wait till you wear the OEM tire out.
