I can't find any good pictures to answer my question, so I ask the experts...
For those who have converted their mid-control Dyna to forward-controls:
Does the forward control kit use the stock shifter rod that goes through the primary, or is the shifter rod eliminated? Does the linkage look just like a Wide-Glide? If so, how is the shifter rod eliminated? I can see how you could just replace the primary chain inspection cover with one that doesn't have a hole in it, but how do you plug off the hole in thebackside of the primary where the rod comes through?
The forward control kit is the Wideglide forward controls chromed. The shaft can come out or you can push it in and wedge it as some others have done. The hole in the back is just there it is actuallya tunnel that connects in the middle between the inner and outer primary cases.
Not a big deal really.
once the mid shifter rod is removed go get 2 buttonhead capscrews 1/2 diameter 3/4 long with lock nuts and locktite.also need flat washers and some gasket material. buff the bolts to a high polish very simple the rest is easy never rust never leak.
Buy the kit for earlier Dyna's. They leave the original shift arm in the case and put a cute little chrome cap on it. They also include a bracket to attach the end of the inside shift arm to the engine case so it doesn't flop around. I bought the kit for my 07 and didn't use half of it. I was in no mood to pull that primary apart.
