I recently started looking for a ride that I could commute/travel with. My Sporty is great but, long distance ride it is not...I had a short list of bikes that I was looking for and sure enough I stumbled across one local on CL. After some negotiations a deal was struck and I rode it home.
As found; Conleys second gen T Sport fairing with 14" shield. Full floating and drilled rotors. SE exhaust, air filter, and fork brace. HD Super Glide sport seat and some ?? 14" MX Bars with integrated risers.
I spent the next two weeks cleaning it up, changing fluids and brakes, fixing a few things here and there. The bike only has 24k on odometer and is in fairly good condition but, it was filthy. I spent three days just scrubbing the damn thing. Needed a new rear tire, already had Commander's on it so I stuck with them.
Painted up the fairing, not sure about it, I may re-spray a different layout. The stock headlight was pitiful so I picked up a cheap China led headlight, there is no comparison between the two, a worlds difference. I also added a pair of Nightster take-off signals up front and moved the original Defender front signals to the rear.
Lengthened the block on the jiffy stand .25" to lessen the lean angle. Worked out perfect.
Chrome was pretty rough on just about everything. I don't really care for chrome anyways so I just red Scotchbrite pretty much everything chrome.
The bars that came with it were one piece dimpled 14ish with steel riser bushings. They were a tad too tall for my comfort and vibrated a crap ton. I went up to the Sac Nor Cal Swap in Aug and got a screaming deal from Big Al's crew on their low rise bars, 6" risers and some urethane bushings. Perfect set-up, well worth the time and money.
Like I said earlier, I am not a big fan of chrome. The Screaming Eagle exhaust is a bit dated looking but, is a nice 2 into 1 so I hit with some titanium header wrap and trimmed of the slash cut end on the slip on.
Alwright! Fine lookin Defender. I have an '04 FXDP myself. Love it. Like you, I really detest chrome. Removed/covered as much as I could with HD flat black, black vinyl wrap & bedliner coating (don't laugh, damn stuff is tough as nails right outta the rattle can!).
Interesting about the TC88. Most FXDP's had a blacked out engine. But this one is brushed Al. Only '01's had that, I think. Pretty rare. Do you know if this bike was in police service (mine was, poor booger was totally thrashed by El Paso PD before I got it)?
I guess you knew FXDP's were a VERY rare Dyna. Only made '01 to '04, and very few in total production run.

Yup 2001 only, the wheels, engine, primary...all raw and so as I understand it no clear coat either. Its not my favorite but, it will do for now. I don't have the whole history. Per the PO, he was the second civilian owner and he bought from a guy in Texas. It came with the LEO air horn/cage and some the wiring indicates that it had pursuit lights and such installed at on time. I would dare to say it probably saw service.
Can you post a link to the head light you bought? I don't ride the Dyna all that much any more, let alone at night. But If I can get a LED head light on the cheap that some one can verify is worth it I'll give it a shot.

Thanks in advance.
No endorsement intended. Its really damn bright and seems well built. However; I have only had it a few days so durability/longevity have yet to be determined...They have "buy it now" price of $118 but, if you're patient their re-occurring bid sale starts at $98.
