Default Bad Vibes

I think I ve read every post on Dyna Vibes but have not seen a similar situation to mine. Hope someone can help. It is a 2011 Superglide Custom. Fuel Moto Micro Tuner, Kurakyn Velocity breather, and Bassani road rage 2/1 header. Bike is perfect thru the gears except for one oddity. 6th gear at 50 mph is very smooth to putt along in. Then at 55-60 the vibration is very pronounced until about 65 when it goes away. It s not a game breaker but I think extremely odd that the bike is smoother at 50. Thanks

Your lugging the engine when you accelerate from 50mph in 6th gear, 50 is even kinda low for cruising in 6th.
I don't like my 09dyna 96 in 6th gear much under 60, unless I'm on a long flat stretch

I was told by two reputable people that sixth gear should be for speeds seventy and higher. Not sure if that is a hard and fast rule, but it works for me.

a few topics have lead to the vibration/ lugging and RPM/gear talk today. But yes, 6th@70 is a good rule.

you should keep the cruising RPMs between 2500-3200 in any given gear. I dont shift into 6th until I'm cruising 70mph, and I'm going to stay at 70 or above.

50mph is low for 5th gear IMO, not to mention at those speeds in 6th gear the bike is a dog and just plain unsafe, should you need to use more throttle to get the hell out of the way of a car that is changing lanes or the like. And with that low of RPM you cant take advantage of engine braking to slow down in the same situation and would have to downshift at least twice to get moving out of the way.

It simply amazes that some people have such a hard time figuring out what gear they should be in, but I guess thats why the forums are here. I'd hate to know how many people are still out there clueless and dont get on any forums.

Yea 6th gear on my dyna is used for 65+. It's useless for less than that.
The poster above me mentioned the safety hazard with lugging around in 6th gear. I agree with that because you never know when you'll need to haul ***** and get out of dodge and , taking the time to downshift, literally could mean the difference in living or dying. Don't underestimate that last sentence.

6th gear for me is 75 or over man. Harley mechanic told me anything less than 70mph in 6th is lugging it.

Where do you find this info? I guess I need to dig into my manual more. I'm not disagreeing with you, would just like to read it myself. That just seems kind of high. I'm usually at about 2300 when I'm cruising in lower speeds/gears. Guess I need to break that habit.

I agree with all. 50 is way to slow for 6th. I was just curious why the bike was smoother at 50 than it was at 60
