Default Problems with decel Pop on street bob

Riding a 2012 street bob with short shots have pc5 on it still getting a lot of popping was wondering if switching to a super tuner would be better and make the bike run better any ideas?

sounds like the mapping is off.... call power vision and get an updated map for it, or fuel motto if you got it from them...... you may also be able to get an update on line

i had a 2010 dyne custom with the big radius and a free flow a/c.... i put the PV5 on it and it popped a bit.... i called power vision/ power commander and they gave me a different map to put into it and that took care of it.... i wasn't going to spend more $$$ on a different fuel management system unless i had to.... i didn't have to, i just had to tweet it a bit.... i never had it dyno'd and it ran fine

Its definitely the map. Too lean still. I have gutted pipes with just tti's, a heavy breather and I'm only using FL-VIED's @ 50% and I get decel pop VERY rarely. If its dyno tuned maybe the map didn't flash right or maybe try somewhere else. I'm no expert but a pc5 should do the job.

This may or may not be obvious - but you also want to ensure everything is tight. I've seen many a bike with popping that simply needed the bolts that mount to the head tightened up. Often times they work loose after the initial install & a few hundred miles.

No, that's an internet myth... decel popping isn't a lean condition, it has to do with fresh air mixing with unburnt fuel coming out of the engine under off throttle situations, when the AFR is right it burns off. You can correct that annoying sound by adding fuel off-throttle to alter the AFR or prevent the reversion of fresh air in the exhaust system... the stock exhaust has decel popping as well, you just can't hear it as readily.

For example, when using a Power Vision you can add fuel during off-throttle decel and alter your VE percentages in Quick Tune, combine that with some Thunder Torque Inserts to help prevent reversion and you can dial out that decel popping. With the OP using a PCV his map will need to be altered, simple job with the DynoJet software...

Exactly. Decel popping isn't an indication of a problem. If it bothers you, you can get rid of it by throwing the decel mixture so far off that it won't burn.

Depends on the level of popping! It can most certainly be indicative of a problem that needs to be corrected!

Some mild is normal/expected, but there's a difference in the "mild popping" you & the previous poster spoke of and a major hiss/pop or loud bang/snap and the frequency at which it happens.

Exhaust leaks are very common issues on newly installed pipes & causes popping - whether it be due to improper installation, torqueing or whatever - or just simple need to re-torque down the main bolts at the exhaust port.

If all is good & tight, contact the DynoJet folks, tell'em your setup and they'll shoot you over another map which will probably fix it. Just be sure to give them all the details they need: bike year, model, what air cleaner & exhaust you have on - and exactly WHEN its doing the popping (what gear, speed, sometimes, every time, is it MAJOR popping or little snappy pops, etc). That info may help.

No need to swap out tuners at all.

Short pipes are tougher to tune, but it certainly can be done. You should check for intake and exhaust leaks. If you have one, the best tune in the world won't help.
