Default Need help spending $

I know I've come to the right place.

Looking for personal experience, other ideas I may not beconsidering or just suggestions.

Have a 2014 Dyna setup as my sig details. I really like it but just not satisfied andwill go to a 117 or 124, andwant to take care of some things before going allin. For example the most expensive partsI have so far will be part of my future build and will help offset cost at thattime. So in effect I’ve been somewhatpiecing things together to help reduce the cost once I go for it. The bike lift, TTS, & exhaust I purchasedfor around $1500 would be necessary anyways and can go with any future build(yes I like my V&H 2-2 and will keep them so go ahead and hate) The 57Hs, SE clutch spring and HG were all relatively cheap and can bechalked up to a learning experience.

With that in mind my idea is to do this in two steps;meaning I’ll perform some minor yet necessary upgrades and ride it for 8-10months while working out the details of the build and bringing my funds backup.

My plan now is to address the primary side; clutch andbasket (and while I’m at it increase the primary drive ratio) from the stock of2.790 to 2.976 via a 49T clutch sprocket. I know its not the same as some are doing w/the 30/70 combo but I don’t wantto go that low. So minus the gaskets, bolts, and washers etc I’m looking at the following parts:

Evo Industries 49t basket w/ clutch & chain 1006-4158 $ 1213.98
Baker Tensioner #177-67k $190

With this all in mind, should I also replace the compensator andclutch cable? And is there anything else that I should consider while in thatside?

Second step will be to go with the build; a 117 or 124, IDK forsure at this point. When it happens itwill be the bottom end with all the work needed likely via darkhorse; alongwith Cylinders, pistons, heads, Cam support plate,TB, injectors etc. From what I’m seeing this will around 5-6kand why I want to take care of these other parts 1st. So I’ve been putting a list together and whentime comes will look for someone to assist with this; likely Scott orKirby. This part is all up in the air right now and notsure I want to tackle it myself given the investment or have someone do it; biggestchallenge is location so depending on the situation may look to some Indys in NorthWest. Basically some where I could takeit between Fargo ND, Denver CO, and Seattle.

Just wanted to put this in context; one thing at a time, and rightnow that the primary side of things. Feedback is appreciated.

I would just like up the parts and do it all at once. Definitely go Baker comp with big build. Big factor in build is bar hopper distance. Let Scott or Kirby direct you to the build that suits your riding plans. Second decide if you want to keep what you got long enough to do all this or get a fresh slate to build from.

Sounds like you are thinking things out well! Since you have the new SE comp, I would just keep an eye on it before replacing. I have been watching my comp slowly go down the tubes and plan on replacing soon with the Baker but yours is a better version and seems to be getting decent reviews.

When you send your crank in to DH, be sure to get the better rods. I left my rods stock which is OK for my 107" but probably not a good idea going 117". Might even consider getting the S&S crank, especially going to 124" - probably not that much more $$ than all the DH work.

I also think a plug and play engine is worth considering, not much more than getting your engine all redone - might even be about the same if you can sell your old engine. Star Racing and R&R Cycle have some nice options.

A crate engine may be a lower cost considering what you have in mind. Light weight H rods when doing the crank.
