I have been reading windshield threads for weeks but I am still not sure what steps to take. I would like to get some wind and bug protection for long hauls. First I started with the HD standard height windshield. The buffeting was so bad, I took it back. Next I went with memphis shades sport shields. I tried the el paso 17"which comes to my chin and the delrio15" which comes to my neck area. The memphis shadeswere better but stillshaked the crap out of my riding glasses. I have tried the salute trick andit does not seem to help. I think the shields are too short and the wind is coming over the top and hitting me in the eye area. The15" shield seems to be better than the 17" because my head inclearly in thefresh air. I did notice that if I duck behind the shield there is no buffeting. I ride with ahd half helmet with the visor removed. I am thinking of ordering the 19" sportshield and if that does not help, switch to a different helment. Maybe a 3/4 with shield. Any ideas or advice? This has been very frustrating for me.
I struggled with the same problem on my Sporty. You need your head out of turbulence. Either use a shield short enough to get your head up in clean air, or a shield that is tall enough to get the rough air over your head. I have a long torso. A Memphis Fats 21" did the trick for me. I can sit bolt upright and still see over the top as needed.

Welcome to my world. I've been on this quest for several years. I've tried 6 different windshields with varying adjustments and add-ons (like windshield lowers) but never found the solution.
The one that I have not tried is the Memphis Fats 21" that lucky13 mentioned. I really do not want a shield that is too tall, requiring that I look through it, but I honestly do not believe that there is a short version that will not buffet. Oh yes, there will be many people who claim that their 15" whatever does not bother them, or does not buffet, but my experience is otherwise.
I believe that if you want the shield to be comfortable, like a GoldWing windshield, then you have to buy one that looks like a GoldWing windshield, probably with a big fairing to go with it.
Try a hellfire windhsield. I had one on several bikes that I ahve owned in the past. I didn't notice buffeting, but I also wore a full face at this point in time. I did a lot of superslab back ten, and it did the trick nicely. http://www.hsgear.biz/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=SS-SS24
Should I try a different helmet? or maybe get a faceshield for my 1/2 helmet? Will a face shield make things worse? Most of the buffeting affects my riding glasses. I could also try goggles.
