I have a '97 Dyna Convertible with the stock windshield and I want a shield that I do not have to look through and still keeps the wind off me.
I have checked on the windvest, Memphis Shades and a friend has the switch blade from National Cycle.
I know that there is a the set-up is as important as the brand name but I would like input from someone that has used any or all of these shields. I am also considering a set of lowers because it seems that a lot of the air comes from below the windshield.
I don't (didn't) like windshields, but for the sake of functionality (keeping wind/bugs off me), I gave Memphis Shades a try. I bought their smallest sport shield, called the Del Rey. The thought was it would be small, unobtrusive and help with the wind/bug situation. It didn't help much and after several weeks I removed it and stayed shield-less for several months. Recently, thinking I already have the sport shield series mounting hardware, perhaps I'll try a larger one. This time I got the Rio Grande, the largest of the sport series. Much better. After a few tweaks (height/tilt) it does what I wanted it to do: a lot less wind and bugs. There are more expensive/better shields out there, but as I said, I'm not a shield guy, per se, so wanted to keep it simple and cheap. I accomplished both (except I'm out the original $39 for the Del Rey plastic).
I've got the HD quick detatch. When mounted on my bike the top edge is right at my eye line, very annoying. I ended up cutting 3-1/2 inches off the top. Now I look over and don't have nearly as much wind on my chest/head.

Exactly. The convertible has a very nice windshield. Just cut a couple inches off the top. I cut 3 inches off a girls the other day. Nothing too it. Fine blade in a jigsaw set on a higher speed. Used lots of masking tape to protect it and hand sanded it to final shape. Took half an hour.
