The FXRT / FXRP "Style" Dyna Fairing Thread

and the rear ones

(early style inner fairing, the brackets on the late version look a bit different)

Jim
i am a custom guy and so it happens i like not too many bikes that i see which are close to stock.
Yours i love ! ! Really !
Yes i am in contact with TOL and Dreher and they can deliver a bottom mount.
From stock FXR`s it is said all three mounts are mandatory, as there was reported that the fairing delivers stress cracks when leaving the additional mounts away.
I think it was the area around where the main center mount is bolted onto the fairing and occurs after eating more miles.
Maybe with a stiffer fairing from glass, instead of the OEM ABS plastic, and the spared weight without having a stereo, two mounts will work, but i would try to fabricate a rear mount as well.
At least i would drive it around a (longer) while in primer, before letting a painter do his magic.

Nice how the stock FXR Superglide seat goes well along with the FXRT fairing!
Remembers me on the `84 FLH Shovelhead that i bought in `86.
I removed the King and Queen seat from it and used a stock Shovelhead Wide Glide seat, removed some foam on the driver seat section to lower it and it worked out well.
I have stored four seats now all together for the FXR and the Superglide seat is one of them.
I have asked at Dreher if mid glide trees will work with the fairing, as i have a 130 front tire, and was told it should fit.
I'm in the process of saving pennies for this type of fairing, since they grew on me as of late. I know this is a matter of personal taste, and brand loyalty; but which one is the best all around fairing to run with? Is there really that much difference between them, other than the obvious that some give you a larger light?
thanks...
maybe the best will be you write down all aspects you can think of in a vertical line, then write the manufacturers above in a horizontal line.
Then mark the features with a hooklet and find out which manufacturer has the most checkmarks, maybe that helps.
It really depends on what is important for you.
For instance, some may allow to use windshields with stock located bolt holes, giving you the choice to change heights when using different brands of shields.
Others may have nicer windshields than the others (from your personal point of view), but specially designed so that there is no choice to swap them.
Eventually the same is the case with the headlight cover.
Some are based on the FXR inner fairing late design, some based on the early design, and as seen lately now, even unique.
Some show plain surface on the inside, some not.
Pricing varies, brackets also are from importance.
I have also seen one manufacturer listed in the thread that has a "special" history, that i am aware of.
Flip through the thread and the websites.
As far as saving pennies for it goes, we are in the same boat !

i`m only following up the matter since a while and listen to driving reports and build reports....
....still searching for "my" fairing and think i found it with the TOL / Dreher fairing. But all i know about is the pictures. Have to find out myself !
The funny thing is, when the FXR was a new model at that time, i disliked (soft word) it a lot, especially the FXRT.
Now as i want to make my 88 a daily beater, i need somewhat of a weather protection and that made me want a fairing...
and with just a smaller windshield, paint, they already look cool. Or is it i`m just getting older ?
Even the stockish ones can look good, just look at Jim`s orange eye candy !
The only thing that bothers me, is the extra weight...
These suckers add the weight of four crates of water to the front of your bike !!!
And i have always tried to get my bikes lighter usually.
