just figured something out...on my bike.dang fuel light is coming on at only 80 miles.what the heack is wrong here.i knew it was hard on gas,but dang, any thought ? no fuel leaking. i have notice is smells rich sometimes like when i pull in the driveway ....thanks for any thoughts on this !!!
the bike seems to be running fine as far as i know .
Honestly, I would not go off the fuel guage. I have an '06 Bob and the guage just isn't reliable. Other people who I ride with have the same problem on their Harley's. Softails and RK's. If mine has under a half and is on the stand, when I stand it up the light will be on. Sometimes it turns off and sometimes it doesn't. Everyone I know including myself just go off miliage. I know when I hit aroumd 150 it's a good time to fill up.
i was wondering about that too.if perhaps i had a bad fuel light or something . 80 miles and the lite coming on just got to be wrong . maybe i get the steeler to check it ?? na,i can already hear it. you got to leave the bike for 2 weeks for us to check it. i been down that road with them before. unreal . good weather finally here.not a good time to take er' in .
The light does seem to come on later if you turn on the ignition with the bike upright and not on the side stand. But as others hav said....I go by mileage, not the light or the gauge.
Maybe the fel light is a bit sensitive. You're getting the same mileage, just check when you fill up. My dyna was outfitted just like yours for a long time, SEII's and nothing else. Stock A/C and ECM.
Only recently did I add the PC III EX and Screamin Eagle intake. Mine always got 42-47 mpg. Still gets 45 mpg even with the PC and open intake. Still tweaking.
My light will sometimes come on early when I turn the ignition on when on the side stand, maybe with a half a tank, then it goes away after a few miles. When it gets to aboutone quarter tank it stays on.
I never go by my gage, Its seams to come on at different times. I also have a 2 inch tank lift so that changes things. when it says empty I have at least 50 miles left.
do a mileage check when ya fill up with gas, it may be the light sensor is a little off. i have a PCIII, cycles shacks, and an H/F air cleaner and I am getting about 42/43 around town and when I went to myrtle beach on a ride last weekend I got 48 highway, which did suprise me, never got that before. I have a 06 superglide custom. Oh, my light usually comes on around 150/155 and takes about 3.1 to 4.0 gals give or take
